Friendly local pub

The staff are very pleasant and welcoming, regardless of whether you are a local or tourist. Food is very nice and homely. Lovely place to stop for a drink or meal after a walk.

It was a wet winter's day when my sister and I called in to the pub. We were greeted with a very warm welcome from both the friendly landlord and the roaring log fire. The pub was decorated for Christmas and looked fabulous. This is a proper country inn not a fine dining bistro pub. There is a dart board... More

I stopped in here after a hike. This is a free house (i.e. not owned by/tied to a brewery), so they had an excellent selection of real ales. The ambiance of the pub was very nice and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I didn't eat here, so can't comment on the food.

Excellent meal at very reasonable price:- a warm, welcoming 'family' pub. Thoroughly recommended on basis of our experience.

Visited this pub many times, for the company, the food and the location as well as events in the field at the back. Food is home cooked and delicious, the landlord Ian is friendly and welcoming. Lots of walks either to and from the pub or having the pub as a lunch stop over. There has been a beer festivals,... More

Well kept, good quality and varied selection of real ales. Concise menu that covers all bases, delicious home cooked food. Popular spot with locals and walkers however our food arrived very quickly considering it was a busy Sunday lunchtime and we hadn't booked. Ian has put his heart and soul into making this pub outstanding in an area with many... More

This place is old-fashioned and unpretentious; warm, cosy log fire, friendly service, excellent beer and good value food. It's at the centre of several walking routes and the staff are just so friendly and welcoming. I've been before, once with a large group and twice with friends, each time we were given a good lunch and a warm welcome.

The atmosphere, food and drink were second-to-none. I have only dropped the rating to four from five because the place was absolutely packed but had insufficient staff on duty to keep the inevitable delays down to a reasonable level. As there were two bookings for tables of nine and twelve they should have been able to plan better.

Fabulous atmospheric pub. We had a long walk and stumbled upon this lovely pub. The landlord was welcoming and friendly. A lovely log fire which was wonderful and added to the comforting atmosphere. Can't wait to go back
