Mine host, Ian, gave me a warm welcome when I came in for my pre-walk pint, which turned into two.Glad to report that both ales were excellently kept. They were the very local Whim Hartington IPA and not so local Wadworth 6X. The Whim went down a treat and the Wadworth, although not to my taste, went down well nevertheless.... More

The new owners (I believe) are making a go of this place. It's very welcoming, with a good atmosphere and some decent, reasonably priced house wines. The kitchen, however, needs work. A rustic beef stew was pretty good, but outside of this there was only rather disappointing 1980s style pub fare, e.g. breaded scampi or food from the deep fat... More

Having done the very steep and widing narrow roads from Butterton to Wetton, I was very much looking forward to sitting in a local pub with a home cooked style meal. When we arrived it was exceptionally busy and every table was reserved :-(... More

Good pub grub after a long day of walking - just what we needed. Friendly atmosphere too. Don't forget to book ahead thought as it was pretty busy on a Saturday.

My partner and I came for lunch here, after a busy morning exploring Dovedale and Ilam Hall. It's a typical pub, and did normal pub grub. I had lovely garlic mushrooms, with melted cheese (excellent addition!) and toasted bread. He had the beef and guinness casserole, with I tried and was delicious, with chips. We also shared a portion of... More
