What a wonderful place to eat and drink, the pub is always full of friendly locals and since Nikki and Gemma took over they have certainly done their best to welcome back old and new customers, going out of their way to make sure your visit is a pleasurable one. If you have been in the past, give it another... More

How we found this beautiful village and pub I am not really sure. We were staying in Buxton and decided to go out for the day, and just took a turning that looked like it would take us out around the country lanes and small villages. The countryside around Wincle is stunning and as we went through the village we... More

My partner and I were staying with friends in the village and frequented The Ship for both dinner and Sunday lunch over the weekend. The pub itself is a little gem.....situated in the quaint centre of Wincle it really is the life and soul of the village. The atmosphere was buzzing on both visits - the staff really add to... More

This used to be one of our favourite watering holes but now its just ordinary. It still has a wonderful position in the midst of beautiful countryside and good walks, there was still a fire in the bar but it's no longer special. Since its recent change of hands it has lost the welcoming ambience it used to have. It's... More

The Ship is in a lovely spot although we visited on a miserable, wet day so stayed inside. It was actually quite cold and needed some heating on. We visited mid-week at lunchtime and it was actually reasonably busy with a steady flow of people. The beer was decent and the food was very good, although the chips weren't great.... More

We had eaten at the Ship 2/3 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Now under new ownership the standards are being maintained. My fishcake with pea puree and skinny chips was delicious and my husband commented on the good quality meat in his burger. Good food modestly priced.

They've got a nice beer garden where you can enjoy excellent food and beers. It is a very child friendly place. You'll meet locals and hikers alike and therefore everybody is in a good mood.

Great place - you can easily meet people from the village or hikers. You easily get familiar. The guest room is nice and traditional. Staff is flexible and friendly.Food is delicious - I missed the local beer. A problem is that the entrence leeds directly to the street on a steep hill - mind your steps!
