Been to this place a few times and cannot speak highly enough about it. First time we went we did not order starters. The chef explained the kitchen was small and as it was busy it would take a while for the food to be ready. In the interim period we we're kindly given some bread and butter, not mighty... More

Stopped off here after completing a 5 mile walk with the dogs. Even though the pub was quiet the landlord was pleasant and chatty. I sat outside with the dogs and had two drinks. He very kindly let me use his landline phone as I didnt have signal on my mobile and needed to make a call. I arrived late... More

This place is a pretty good pub. It has good food at reasonable prices and decent servings. Not spectacular but not bad either

We had a family meal - 7 of us and my niece was feeling ill. The publicans showed real concern, which was lovely. the steak and venison pie was very tasty as were all the meals.

I've been to the Ship Inn at Wincle on one previous occasion so I knew before getting there this time, that the food and service were better than ordinary. However, this time it exceeded my expectations. It was dad's birthday and it proved to be the perfect place for a celebration. It's a lovely pub surrounded by beautiful countryside and... More

We found this pub totally by accident on a wet horrible afternoon. We popped in and asked if dogs are welcomed. Yes was the reply but could you use this room.... no problem totally fine by us, thank you. A lot of pubs turn you away with dogs so we were happy. We saw some hikers wearing the blue overshoes... Consider this. A quaint pub in a quiet village popular with ramblers. Now imagine arriving in the afternoon after a pleasant hike looking forward to a decent pint of bitter. However, be careful not to arrive after 2.30pm as this landlord will be glad to turn you away. Add to this a refusal to allow in dogs, understandable if people... More

I have never felt the need to respond to reviews before, as I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions, however I feel it necessary to defend both the pub, my staff and myself on matters that involve, particularly walking parties that visit The Ship.On many occasions I have asked walking groups not to eat their own sandwiches and snacks... We've been going to the Ship for years. We're starting to wonder why we bother. Arrived early on Sunday on a beautiful day in a group of ten. Greeted curtly by a surly landlord and provided with ordinary food by staff who seemed less than pleased to see us. This is one of the great pubs of England. A great... More

Just called at the ship after it was recommended to me. Middle of a really quiet village. Sat down in in a typical country pub.and when the food arrived it was outstanding and restaurant quality. Superb. Will be recommending it to friends and family. Well worth the drive
