Great place for family breakfast

The service was fast and the food was good. The menu has some unique items and the old standards. It was a good value as well.

We go to Plates often if and when we are visiting Courtenay. We enjoy the retro atmosphere that shows off a remarkable collection of license plates from across North America and abroad. Breakfast is always good - but the Pepper Pot Soup is unique and hearty. The service is warm and friendly and the cost is very reasonable. Give it... More

The food is ok once you finally get it. The service was absolutely terrible. We refilled our own coffee....were never asked how the meal was. Had to hunt down a dif waitress from another section to grab us some condiments. Will not be returning or at least will not be returning to this particular waitresses section.

Parking around the back. Decor, automobile license plates. Food, really like the soup. Clubhouse was large and filling. A little slow on the coffee refills. As someone else mentioned, this is not a chain restaurant.

Stopped off en route to Port Hardy. Didn't really want to stop at a chain, and decided to pop in here instead. Great service, great food. Really clean and tidy. Quirky car plates all over the walls - different and nice. Plenty food. Much nicer experience than one of the chain eateries. Can visit a chain at home, nice to... More

We stopped here for lunch. Not really knowing what to expect menu-wise but assuming it was a typical roadhouse. I was blown away by the humble-looking Jamaican Pepperpot Soup. I decided to order a large portion and it was amazingly flavourful. Because I had a hankering for something "fatty" and fried, I got a side order of onion rings which... More

We chose to have our appies, sides, and salads catered by Plates for our garden wedding. The food was MUCH larger portions than I expected, we definitely ordered too much. We had leftovers for a meal for 10 the next day too. Many people stated it was the best ceasar salad they have ever had! We had some dietary restrictions... More

My wife and I just recently travelled to Texada Island , Lund and the Sunshine coast. On our return trip, we decided to stop by Plates for a late lunch. The place was not busy at that time because it was around 1:45 pm or so. We ordered the pea soup, onion rings and garlic bread plus iced tea. The... More

We have lived in the valley for 7 years and went to Plates this morning for the first time. First impressions were good. The place has lots of character, but its a little old and dirty. The server was great. Very attentive and friendly. Definitely the best thing about going there. The menu looks great. It's not too big and... More
