Go when you are hungry!

We decided to try the Mad Chef when we were looking for somewhere new to try for an early lunch. Extensive menu - almost too much for those of us who have a hard time deciding lol. We did finally decide - I had the Beach Bum - hubby had a pizza. All were very tasty and more than enough... read more

The menu is varied with great selections with choices for all tastes. Very yummy! The presentation is beautiful, however the tall, narrow bowls / vessels do not make for easy consumption of food Good service, however the sound level preclude conversation and was disappointed when unable to hear others at the table directly across from myself (I am not hearing... Visited Courtenay for concert in park and had dinner here ahead. Menu very inventive, unique in multiple ways. Service was excellent; staff very pleasant. Food arrived in good time and was very tasty and well presented. Prices very reasonable for amount and quality of food served. Restaurant décor a bit stark, but lots of interesting and inventive artwork on walls.... More

We called ahead since there was 10 of us and I'd highly recommend that during dinner hours. It's a smaller establishment right in the center of the old town area. The menu was quirky but fun...easy to understand and a great variety. I shared the lobster mac and it was delicious although the tomatoes through me off a little. I... More

This restaurant has always exceeded our expectations. The ambience is quiet and the food superb. Definitely try their crab cake! Price range is average not cheap but not too expensive either. They don't have high end Vodka (e. g. Belvedere, etc. so you don't get a hang over) nor Moscato (I like the one from Australia) but they have local... More

Boyfriend and I ate here simply because we had a 15% off coupon. We fell in love with the place though. The place has a great vibe, clever names, and friendly staff. My boyfriend had a bigger meal, which I tasted and can confirm was delicious. I had the puffrogies. Which were pretty good, but not as good as my... More

From the moment you walk in you just know it's going to be different... In a really good way! We loved the tuna taco appetizer, the Greek chicken wrap (get it without the bun INSIDE) unless you have a massive appetite... And the scallop crab burger. Just as much fabulous flavour in the sides - the unusual brick crisped potato... More

While visiting our son and his family in Courtenay, we came across "The Mad Chef". We made a take-out order in strange town from a strange restaurant. Not disappointed in the least.... Our was on time as promised, hot when we arrived home, fresh as the menus stated. Great value!

I think I needed an extra 20 minutes just to read the menu. There are a lot of items, but the descriptions are pretty cool, so it takes longer just to get though it. I ended up having the chicken and pineapple sandwich along with the tortilla soup. The soup was alright, but the sandwich had great flavor and made... More

we have been to the Mad Chef Cafe quite a few times now !! There food is consistently good and is differently presented than others ...there drinks as well as ice teas are served in over sized glasses or even fish bowls when I ordered a Mojito one time definately worth a visit while visiting Courtenay B.C.
