Great athmosphere, kind and polite staff. This place is really much more than a steakhouse, it really has a sophisticated touch that makes you feel comfortable. Food was great, just my steak was a little too much marbled it became chewy, but great in the end. Besides they have a very wide wine and beer selection

A very nice restaurant with two areas, one slightly more informal lounge and a more formal restaurant area in the back. Food and service were excellent, a very nice steak cooked perfectly with a nice selection of veg and fries. Other half had a lovely pasta dish. 2 mains, 2 drinks (including a big steak) came to $74 I'm going... More

Ate dinner at Louie's Everyone's dinner was cool. Said to leave the hot potato and heat the steak but they took back whole plate and then steak was warm but potato w as cold. Meat was right color and presentation was superb but they need to improve their timing, place was half empty on a Friday night so no excuse for... More

Dear skidog, Thanks so much for your review. I do remember you gentlemen in the restaurant that night, and once again I'd like to apologize for the timing issue with your meal. We do believe in the importance of resting steaks after the cooking process is complete, as a piping hot steak right off the grill can be ruined very... More

To start off, we like Louie's and keep going back, but less and less often. The steaks are usually uniformly good but the prices are starting to put us off. The prices are top-end city prices, but without the service to match. Last time there we waited 15 minutes past our reservation to be seated, and a further half hour... More

I first want to apologize to you for your last visit with us. If you had to wait 15 minutes for your reservation I can only assume you were in on New Years... More

Being from Nelson, its almost impossible to not get reeled into. Very nice ambiance and lounge area, great staff and experienced bar tenders. This is one of the top meals I've had in Nelson. I had a blackened rib eye with scallops on my last visit cooked to perfection. Everything on the plate was amazing and they have the service... More

We shared the crab cake to start (delicious), and then each had a steak. My rib-eye was perfectly cooked and completely edible, but my husband's New York steak had a wide streak of inedible fat-and-connective tissue, which was disappointing, considering the steak prices and the restaurant's claims of quality. (He should have complained about that, but he wouldn't - too... More

Louie's is part of the Grand Hotel in Nelson, built in 1913. The setting is compatible with the hotel; quiet and very nicely designed. I had a New York peppercorn steak that was excellent, while my wife thoroughly enjoyed salmon. Service was excellent and we'll definitely return, each time we're in Nelson.

Don't let the fact that this restaurant is in a hotel mislead you into thinking the food might be mediocre... it's not. Louie's is clean and tastefully decorated. The lighting is subdued enough to add an atmosphere of intimacy. My dining partner insists you can tell a great deal about the kitchen by the way a restaurant maintains its restrooms.... More

Absolutely THE best place to eat steak in the West Kootenay. Best experience for me this summer was the inclusion of classic "Steak Frites" on the specials menu in July - tastiest steak, best fries, mayonnaise and mustard - perfection on a plate.
