excellent choice for seafood!

We picked Kalvas randomly but that turned out to be an excellent choice. Good, professional and friendly staff welcomed us and talked us through the menu. We had mushroom and a french onion soup to start with which was to die for. As a main we picked the salmon and mixed seafood grill. The... read more

My wife and I decided to treat our son and his fiancee to a night out on their recent visit to Parksville and we all cam away very impressed. Kalvas is stated in a very unique upscale log building right in the heart of Parksville and we had heard that the food was excellent. Let me say we were not... More

I very much enjoyed our meal here. The wait staff were friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. My husband had the seafood grill and I had the bouillabaisse. Both were expertly handled with very fresh fish and seafood. Food was very reasonable for the amount and quality you get. Would go here again in a heartbeat.

My yearly visit was mildly regrettable. Tiniest oysters on the planet. Weird sauce on the scallop prawn dish. Needs to be overhauled.

Well, thank you for your annual patronage! You may not know that most local oysters are not big, rather, they are known for their flavor due to their location around Vancouver Island. Bigger isn’t always better, although if the shells look small, we may add another oyster to the platter, at our loss. Our scallop prawn bake has a unique... More

Booked this on BC day and were asked if we could be there no later than 7.30 as they wanted an early finish. Beverly understandable on a holiday. It did cross my mind that the experience may be compromised as a result. It wasn't. The service and food were excellent, this meal was in the top two of our whole... More

We went here because it was right next to our hotel. Ordered the shrimp and scallop bake for an Appy..it was really good!Order the steak-was cooked to a prefect medium! Also ordered the Seafood Boulliabaise which was awesome! Tried the Creme Brûlée and Creme Caramel for desert and they were amazing!

For the prices charged I as expecting something better. The seafood chowder had very little seafood to my liking and was just average. We had the schnitzel which was very good however the overall prices didn't reflect an amazing dinner. The waiter was very pleasant however he had many tables to cover and was kept busy. With a small table... More

Yes, Fridays are always busy nights. We have corrected the amount of seafood in the chowder in response to your concern, so everybody benefits. In response to the cost, Kalva’s buys real veal, fresh – not frozen –vegetables, we make house-made spätzle and real mashed potatoes with roasted garlic and herbs, we serve Vancouver Island seafood and AAAA steaks. Really pricy and poor quality. Food reminded us of a want-to-be-fancy buffet. Yet it's supposed to be a nice seafood restaurant. The quality does not match the price. This might be fine dining for Parksville, but if you're used to quality restaurants in Vancouver or Victoria, this will be a disappointment. The salmon was dry and over cooked. The onions... More

Kalva’s is a casual family restaurant serving fresh local seafood and steaks at a fraction of the price of high end restaurants in Vancouver and Victoria – we know this because we visit them and compare quality and price - and because those places get the same (or lesser quality) ingredients from the same local sources on Vancouver Island. What... More
