Lovely birthday dinner with wife

Food was superb as usual. Service was a little slow because they were understaff and had not expexted so many customers that night. But still a lovely evening.

We had a lactose intolerant diner and there were no problems adapting menu choices as required. Varied menu with the emphasis on fresh fish. Oysters so fresh they were sweet. Had the bouillabaisse and the fish was perfectly cooked, tough to do in a broth! Friendly efficient service, only $102 with wine for 2.

This is one of those places where looks really good but the food was not good enough to praise it and not bad enough to complain about it..we just would try to find another place while in town!

What a pleasant surprise this restaurant turned out to be. We had a reservation and on arrival the hostess was not happy with the table they'd assigned us, so she asked us to wait just a few minutes and she moved us to a table along the window. A knowledgeable waiter arrived promptly, where we learned they were out of... More

We dined at Kalvas (The Log House) on Saturday evening for my husbands birthday and had a wonderful meal. My husband had the Pan Seared Salmon with a Cream Sauce and I had the Panko Crusted Halibut for the first time and it was the best. You just can't beat this team, Adel the owner and Chef and his wife,... More

Kalvas restaurant is likely Parksville's best restaurant.Very cozy and good service. Too bad about the Bouillabaisse, that i ordered.Obviously one cannot get a Bouillabaisse a la Marseille here. Not the same seafood available here. However spanish saffron is easily available.Yes it is the most expensive spice there is,but a few treads go a long way.And saffron is a must in any bouillbaise.Too bad... Thank you for your informative comments, and…we agree! Kalva’s is now serving our bouillabaisse with real saffron threads. After a bit of research, we discovered that saffron makes the dish. Kalva’s looks forward to having you as our guest again to try it! More

Not great reviews from folks we know. All comparing it to the previous owners who ran an very good shop. Food is ok but pricey.

We appreciate your comments, but I must say it is difficult to learn how to improve from generalities. For example, how many of your ‘folks’ are you talking about, and what are they talking about? A little bit of background: Chef Chmait and his wife have been operating the business for over 8 years with constant improvements and a management... More
