first of all it is in an old historic church which makes me happy that it was saved, and not torn down. It is not too big so it has lots of character and really cool décor. Server was lovely and could tell us where the product came from[Victoria actually] and caught fresh, well you can tell that when you... More

My father eats here regularly and took my brother and I there last evening at the end of a short but intense fishing trip of our own. The restaurant was very nicely decorated by someone with an eye for thematically matched art, and the nice little touches like their own bottles for ketchup and 2 kinds of vinegar were quickly... We eat in this restaurant whenever we are in Port Alberni. The food is excellent and the portions are generous. We always have the cod in panko and the coating is light so you can enjoy the fish. Their side salads are very good as they do not use an excessive amount of dressing. The staff are friendly and the... More

On our way from Vancouver to Tofino, we decided to stop in Port Alberni. Several of the restaurants we had on our list to try were closed (Sunday!). We saw the sign for Bare Bones and decided to try it. We were not disappointed. The place is an old converted church. We tried a panko-crusted halibut and panko-crusted salmon, and... More

Wife and her Dad had the fish. One piece each was large enough for both of them. I had the chicken strips - nice portions. Walked in and almost every table was full. The service was exemplary - never left waiting. Oh yeah, great food as always. Would recommend for all.

Although the menu is not very extensive, the items they have are all fantastic. I had the grilled salmon here, and it was the best salmon of my life, hands down! If I could, I would go back there right now while I am writing this, this is how good it was. The building itself is also interesting as it... More

Our large extended family (10 people) had a meal here and everyone was pleased with their food. They have a nice range of fish options - battered, panko crusted, or griled, nice range of fish and sauces. It is fun to mix and match the components of your meal. We also all opted for the one piece and for the... More

I have eaten a lot of fish and chips over the years, in many different places. I can safely rank Bare Bones Fish and Chips as one of the three best fish and chip meals I have ever enjoyed. What separates them from the competition? Good, fresh fish, with the choice of halibut, cod or salmon. Three different choices of... More
