A hidden gem: good food in a charming atmosphere

A charming hard-to-find restaurant tucked away off the main drag with really good, traditional food. Attentive, friendly wait staff. Nautical, cozy ambiance. A nice break from the cottage to enjoy a civilized meal.

We had a lovely meal here. It's a great family friendly place with a seasonal menu. They had a nice children's menu too which offered fresh grilled chicken instead of breaded fingers, and a choice of salads and veg, which was a nice change! We arrived early and luckily they managed to squeeze us in, but I would recommend making... More

Great service, great wine list! We love the feature nights when they serve up various dishes from one country and pair it with delicious wines.

One of the most amazing menus I've seen. The variety and the ingredients are out of this world. The encrusted whitefish was perfectly cooked and paired well with the watermelon salad to start. MMMMMMM

The Explorers Café offers fine dining at it's best in Midland. Chef/Owner Rob Reader creates an unforgettable gastronomic experience and as well, this man knows his wine! The menu changes often and the food is truly outstanding. The atmosphere is tremendous and owner Rob with his wife Jennifer makes everyone feel truly welcome. I've eaten at all the best restaurants... More

For our 39th wedding anniversary we selected Explorer Cafe and after checking their menu online we were really looking forward to our visit... Reservations made we arrived and were seated promptly. Server appeared courteous and then it all started to go south. We ordered wine from the menu and were told it was a new menu item which they weren't... More

Its about time I wrote a review for one of my favourite restaurants near to my home. Explorers is more than dinner out, it is an experience. The staff treat everyone as a friend. The chef knows his trade and the owners, Rob and Jen, are most likely to greet you at some point. The food is not your usual... More

Five star food and wine at a very reasonable price! We enjoyed the local wine, recommend 2012 year reds, the prosciutto wrapped and charred trout in a lemon butter sauce, and the duck (in a heavenly cranberry topping). Very professional and friendly service. Although we were in our boating attire we were treated like dressed in cocktail attire! Lovely atmosphere... More
