Still good for izakaya

You drive down Alexandra street in Richmond and you get bombarded with lights, restaurants, and then more restaurants. It's no wonder some call this 'restaurant lane'. The choices for Asian cuisine seem endless. Along the short street, in a small slot among scores of restaurants lies Manzo. You... read more

I always stay at the hotel across the street when working in Richmond but have somehow always overlooked this place. WOW!!!!! The food is second to none and the service was fast and super friendly. Really upbeat and fun atmosphere with great beer. This is now my "go to" place for fresh and amazing Japanese Izayaka food.

We went to the Manzo Itamae on Capstan Way and Garden City. We lived in Japan for 16 years, and were happy to find an izakaya with all the foods that we have been missing like nattomaki. Although higher priced than most other Japanese restaurants, the food was very delicious (albeit somewhat "Canadianized"), and the service was quick. There was... More

Manzo was a surprise find on our recent trip to Vancouver. A diner can get spoiled eating at the wide variety of Asian food to be found in this area, but Manzo is a cut above the standard Japanese food fair. All he food is homemade, fresh and authentic. I've traveled extensively to Japan, and know that amazing variety available.... More

After reading others' reviews I'm convinced that we need to go back and more a better variety. That is: we really enjoyed our first meal there last weekend, but I had forgotten my close-up glasses and could not read the menu in the available dim light. And it was so busy, and the servers so harried (service out of the... More

Fun atmosphere and great service -- we ate here over the weekend with our 3 year old son and were impressed with how warmly the staff welcomed him. They brought him a little bowl of steamed rice right away, as well as IKEA-style plastic plate, bowl, and cutlery, and all of our servers made a point to chat with him.... More

Wonderful presentation of all the food. We were there in a large group so we had a great assortment from sashimi to rolls, beef tongue robata , goza, asparagus, edananme, Beef and chicken teriyaki, The Asaki beer and chill saki was also very good. we all ate for a couple of hours and left very full. Its a gold-mine in... More

Awesome atmosphere, better Japanese than most 5 a dime joints. We tried mixed sushi, lovely. Gindara was delicious, sweet and clean to the palate. Beef tongue robata was a surprise delicacy. Worth a visit whenever you are in greater vancouver area.

The title says it all. It is crowded and service is good, I don't think they need to skim on giving their customers non-standard half-thickness un-acceptable slices. Sashimi, being the first course, turned us off right there and then; and it doesn't matter how good everything else is ! Which wasn't above average by any means anyway. AVOID.

Since moving to Richmond, we've been exploring various cuisines. We stumbled across Manzo in a little strip mall not far from the airport, and hit the jackpot. We had some asparagus with a delicate roe sauce that was out of this world, very delicately flavoured. We chose a few other dishes and were quite full when we left. It's not... More
