I had read mixed reviews of this restaurant but was agreeably surprised not to find any problems! It was a lovely sunny day and we sat in the garden under large umbrellas to have our lunch. The service was good and the portions were generous. Two of us had baked potatoes with fillings. They were well cooked and came with... More

Me and my partner went here today for lunch at 12 noon. A nice little ride through some forest area, the pub is in a lovely location. It looks very nice upon arrival. I ordered fish chips and peas which I must say was lovely and without fault, however I cannot claim that same for my partner's meal which was... More

12 of us went yesterday and the place looked fine. Service was a bit hit and miss and the food did,nt turn up until more than 1 hour after the orders had been taken ( they had run out of beef burgers) When the food did turn it was all a bit cool except for the 2 portions of lasagne... More

It was full of Essex country types. Down to earth but stylish at the same time the atmosphere was chilled and friendly. A family place and the lasagna and pizza were great

Sunday lunch. Leathery beef slices that appeared to have languished on a hotplate for some time before being served. Soggy, pallid, greasy roast potatoes without a hint of crunch. One tiny minijug of bland gravy between five diners. Yorkshire pudding an anaemic ,flabby half -cooked, unappetising dough without a hint of the light crispness you expect. Three slivers of overcooked... More

I like eating in countryside pubs, The only downsides can be: 1) The predictability of the menu; jacket potatoes and/or bland red meat roasts, 2) Dour bar staff, 3) The predictability of the regular customer; males, sweaters tied around sunburnt necks, whose arrival at the pub - in very expensive sports car and aviators - will be acknowledged by strangers... Have been visiting this pub for many years. Brilliant forest location for walkers and best dog friendly pub for miles. In past food and service ok but poor when busy probably due to lack of staff. Last couple of visits (new owners) have been brilliant. Great, good value and varied menu including brilliant pizzas, friendly and efficent service. Hope they... More

I visited with family members for a pub lunch. It was a nice place in good country location but the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered a cheese ploughmans and got 2 slices of toasted bread a small amount of cheese some gerkins and some small pickled onions and a bit of salad. Very expensive for what... More

I have eaten at The Owl pub twice recently. Firstly last Thursday evening for a family celebration. The staff were really nice, efficient and accommodating. We had onion rings and cheesy garlic bread to start. Two had pizza, as good as an Italian restaurant, they said. I had chicken in mushroom sauce and my husband had sizzling beef. It was... More

We went for a family meal last Sunday. Service was disorganised, food was cold, Sunday roast portions were small and the dessert orders were mixed up. A great shame as we love visiting for family gatherings. The consensus after last Sunday is that we will not be back.
