The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal.

The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

Delicious!!

We were on our way to Swansea and decided to stop for a bit of lunch. Never been here before but will certainly return. The staff and food were excellent and the choice was very different. I had the Ray Wing with chips and it was delicious and my husband had the Pork belly also delicious.

We needed a dog-friendly restaurant but were bowled over by The Griffin. The dogs were welcomed with their own water bowl. We were given a huge table for 2. The menu changes daily and is limited but the food is excellent and all freshly prepared. The home-baked bread changes daily as does the amuse bouche (delightful). Everything we had was... More

We lunched here on three consecutive days last week whilst holidaying in Wales. The food and service are consecutively excellent; we cannot praise the chef highly enough

I have been wanting to eat here for a few years now and as we were in the area (finally) we thought we would try it out. Absolutely superb. The great atmosphere in the restaurant, fresh flowers on all the tables, the warm welcome and fabulous staff all set the scene. The freshly baked bread was delicious. The food was... More

Had a much needed night off from our own pub/restaurant and a friend had recommended this place. We drove up from Cwmafan near Port Talbot so we hoped it would be worth the long drive. We didn't book as it was a Thursday but if we ever visit again we will book as they were busy so we were lucky... More

TOP TIP - Don't rush to eat, take time to enjoy a drink in the friendly busy bar and soak up the ambience of this place

Another lovely meal at The Griffin. Warm friendly atmosphere Interesting menu with unusual dishes. Not the cheapest place to eat but worth every penny.

I went into the Griffin pub/restaurant/hotel on recommendation but was very disappointed and angry by what I found. The staff with the exception of a young Italian girl were cold, unfriendly, and superior. My partner and I (we had not booked) were squeezed onto a corner table and made to feel that we had been done a favour by being... More

Enjoyed my son's birthday party here this week. Staff extremely helpful and attentive, with lots of useful advice, but not at all pushy. Food all round was very good indeed. We will be back
