The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal.

The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

I cannot rate The Felin Fach highly enough. We stopped in for lunch on our way to our summer holiday on the Welsh coast and loved it so much we stopped again for lunch on the way home! All the veg is fresh from the garden and cooked superbly. We had the gnocchi, lamb burger, risotto and Thai fish stew... More

Having lunched and later in the month dined at this great gastro pub, would recommend the food, the service and the lovely atmosphere to anyone willing to spend a little extra.

Busy, with a nice "centre of local life" feel to it - locals popping to the bar en route home, other tourists and residents arriving later for dinner. Great amuse bouches; delicious sweetbreads, lamb etc. But not a bargain pricewise. Noisy road meant windows had to stay shut.

I went here for lunch with 3 friends and what a great lunch it was. The food is reasonably priced and is so tasty. Before our food arrived, we were provided with fresh soda bread and homemade crisps and dip. I definitely recommend having. Dessert. The chocolate dessert was presented well and tasted Divine! I will definitely visit again; perhaps... More

4 people for Sunday lunch Including 1 staunch vegetarian. Great atmosphere, great staff. Starters and main courses - beautiful, 2 excellent puddings and 2 x rice pudding tasted lovely but not cooked, needed at least 30 more minutes in the oven. Nice try though - would definitely go back - Cost including 3 drinks £120

We came back as we had enjoyed our last meal here so much. We had home made crisps with aioli and bread as a complimentary apperatif- not quite as nice as last time's. I had the lamb tagine which was fine but the desert was lovely- a raspberry 'pave' with an accent on the last e... I think it was... More

A very warm welcome, friendly and professional staff, we arrived quite late in the day for lunch, but nothing was too much trouble. They welcomed our dog too and without us asking even brought her a bowl of water. They have a great selection of ales and ciders, AND the food was absolutely incredible. Much better than in some really... More

The atmosphere in The Felin Fach Griffin is very warm and friendly. Staff have the time to talk and are attentive. Some tasty dishes were brought to the table prior to the starters. I ate my first sweetbreads. They came with a "nasturtium salad". This consisted of 2 leaves and a flower, un-dressed. More of a garnish, really. Bit disappointing.... More
