The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal.

The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

Very good but expensive.

We booked for dinner for the other night as one our 2 treat meals on our holiday in the area. The other one was for The Hardwick. The food here was excellent, very tasty and imaginative. The portions were on the small side and the bill on the large side! I have to say we enjoyed The Hardwick much... read more

We visited as a group of friends for lunch and this happened to coincide with Mother's Day, and so this was the menu presented to us. We were met by a lovely maitre d' and shown to our table, in a pleasant little side room away from the main restaurant. Service was attentive but I would have to add here... More

I guess if you go for lunch on Mothers Day then you have to expect it to be busy. It didn't seem too busy here though, just nice. We had a leisurely lunch with friends, the service was good, another place that has a great knowledge of gluten-free choices and I even got some GF bread too. There was a... More

One thing that is most important in a restaurant is SERVICE. My wife and I popped in for lunch, the waitress was excellent , we sat beside a lovely wood burning fire, she took our order, we had the two course lunch and it was really nice. We had a sparkling ginger beer and a gingerflour drink, both lovely. Bit... More

Visited today for Sunday lunch, was full when we arrived (always a good sign) sat down on the comfy sofas whilst we waited for our table. We were seated by the open fire, ordered a beef, lamb & chicken. Beef & Lamb were served with a massive homemade Yorkshire, seasonal veg & roast potatoes with a serving of cauliflower cheese,... This is a gem of a place, cooking excellent food in comfortable, traditional country inn atmosphere with log fires, good beer and pleasant, efficient staff. On a Sunday, the set menu is traditional Sunday roasts of beef, pork, lamb plus fish and (I think) a veggie option. The beef was tender, the vegetables properly cooked and the yorkshire pudding crisp... More

We had a terrific lunch here: set menu for both - with variations. The ambience, including general setting, nestling just off the main road from Brecon, and atmosphere was perfect for a casual and relaxed birthday lunch! The staff were amazingly knowledgeable and helpful: top marks to the sommelier who made an excellent recommendation for wine (a reasonably priced Ribera... More

Eight of us had dinner here during a weekend in Wales to celebrate my wife Wendy's birthday. We were staying at the wonderful nearby Llangoed Hall, but really fancied an excellent pub meal and were not disappointed. Four of us had eaten and stayed here before and the excellent experience then was repeated on this night. The atmosphere is great... More
