The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal.

The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

Perfect meal... Just delicious.

Have eaten out a lot in last 10 days and this meal was the best. My favourite part was the Glamorgan sausages with the belly pork..yum yum! Also lovely rhubarb dessert. Price might be high for pub food but in my eyes this isn't pub food and for the quality and quantity the price is fair. Service... read more

Stopped off here as pass by many times and not gone in, so glad we did. As many pub or food serving restaurant etc around the area stop food at 2pm then don't start again til evening we was hoping to find somewhere. Perfect place inside was lovely and welcoming especially with a baby. Then the food was just amazing... More

Great meal, lots of novel touches and great ingredients. Pushing the Walnut Tree, Hardwick and other local eateries really hard. Friendly service in very cosy surroundings

Many years since I visited this splendid restaurant. My wife had never been before, and was impressed. The menu is far from run of the mill and offers a variety of exotic dishes. The wine list is comprehensive but expect to pay £38 or so. It was a delight to take my wife and friends for dinner, but would have... More

The food in this gastropub was so yummy. We had the three course menu. As I couldn't decide between two mains, the waitress offered to ask the chef if he could make one of the mains as a starter so I could try them both. The portions were not really big, but each bites was amazing. The atmosphere is also... More

We called for lunch and were given a table in the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food tasty although the portions appear quite small. Having read several reviews on here I see it often compared to The Three Horseshoes in Groesfford. I have to say that for me the Three Horseshoes certainly tops here. That said, I have... More

On a sunny Easter Monday, what's not to like about a 70-mile roof-down drive through lovely countryside for a tasty lunch. My husband suggested this restaurant after reading about it in a national newspaper and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the attentive friendly service. I would agree with others' comments that while it is on the pricey side, the... More

We visited for lunch on the strength of an enthusiastic review in the Good Pub Guide and were not disappointed. The menu is innovative and the food fulfilled the expectations raised by its descriptions. We found our choices delicious. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the dining room homely. Highly recommended.

After all I had heard about it, I was a little disappointed. Just small things like; 2 small portions of bread with the cheese board. Asked for the crackers (as mentioned on menu) and got some crispy wafer thing that tasted terrible with blue cheese, and was too crispy to spead on anyway.

We booked for dinner for the other night as one our 2 treat meals on our holiday in the area. The other one was for The Hardwick. The food here was excellent, very tasty and imaginative. The portions were on the small side and the bill on the large side! I have to say we enjoyed The Hardwick much more.... More
