Description: The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal.

The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

Visited for our anniversary. Very homely feel. Staff very helpful without being over the top. Main course of steak was lovely, very tender and tasty. Only let down was that the crab starter was overpowered by the tomatoes. Would definitely return.

The Felin Fach Griffin is a slightly schizophrenic place that hovers between being a village pub where locals in their gardening clothes read the Sundays over a pint and diners, like my wife and I, look for a slightly more sophisticated experience - a tricky balance. The style and ambiance is determinedly laid back – large sofas, battered dining tables... More

We booked in having stayed the night. Fabulous food throughout but I can honestly say the best chocolate parfait that I have ever eaten....... EVER! Good atmosphere, attentive relaxed service and a well enjoyed meal. Thank you all.

Had been once before, very impressed so had high expectations for my 65th Birthday Sunday Lunch. What a great meal! We could taste each individual ingredient on the plate, and my medium rare beef roast was in a superb gravy. We had an 8 year old grandson with us, and he had a lovely meal, adult sized, but on a... We were four, and we planned the day trip from Cardiff around the lunch, visiting Tretower Court and Castle in the morning, and driving south through the Brecon Beacons in the late afternoon. The venue is pub-sized with a small outdoor patio and garden, and we had a fine table in a small room off the main, with one wall... More

The warmth and friendliness of the welcome made an excellent impression on arrival and the fairly concise menu suggested careful cooking. This turned out to be correct and we enjoyed an appetizing and attractively presented meal. A most enjoyable evening.

The last two evenings we have eaten in pubs. Yesterday at The Three Tuns (Hay on Wye) we ordered food at the bar while tonight we ate in a pub that positions itself as a restaurant with table service. For this reason we had expected more from The Griffin yet both places delivered a similar kind of modern pub food.... More

But I can't work out what! Service was excellent. The food was great but not brilliant. Ambience was a little odd and it's just not perfect. Annoying because it is so close. Worth a trip, but not the two hours it took us...

Had a faultless sunday lunch with friends at The Griffin at the start of August, We each chose differing meals and all were fantastic. Clean plates all round. Great service, great choice of local speciality drinks (alcoholic & non) as well as a great sized restaurant. All round a superb sunday lunch experience. Highly recommend going for a long walk... The food was exceptional, we received a very warm welcome and there was a great wine list and good selection of local ales.
