A delightful experience

Both food and service here can be characterized as unobtrusive, but offering distinctive pleasures. Both demonstrate a high level of expertise and reflect the joy of a good repast. Delicious local wines. The spacious dining room is simultaneously elegant and rustic. A crackling fire was thoughtfully stoked in the giant hearth on this chilly fall evening. St. Médard is a... Charming welcome, comfortable smart contemporary ambiance. Delicious amuses bouches, pre-desserts, petits fours surrounding finely presented dishes. Fresh ingredients. An accomplished outfit. Fairly expensive.

Back to the Gindreau for an autumn special, the seven course menu with the grouse as the main dish. Everything was perfect, food, service, surroundings, welcome - only the unseasonably cool weather was a bit of a let down. The swordfish with its seafood accompaniment was quite exceptional, ditto the chestnut flour cannelloni and mushrooms, although it's hard to pick... More

We were told of this restaurant by some friends who visit France regularly.... and really, shame on us as we live here permanently! Our inaugural visit (we LIKE nice restaurants and make a habit of revisiting them) was a Sunday lunch in early October Autumn. We opted for a table with a superb view over russeting woodlands beyond. Shame the... More

We stumbled upon Le Gindreau in Spring of 2014 on our first trip to the Lot. It was superb in every way. We were dertermined to return and did so today. We were not disappointed. As on our first visit, the food was marvelous, the service flawless and the ambience divine. The warmth of the owners/chef is apparent in many... More

A truly memorable lunch ! The setting is amazing but the menu is really balanced and in season. An unexpected delight was the leek mouse and leek compress with a blue cheese and herb sauce. Definitely choose the wines that are recommended. The staff are attentive and very helpful all you need to be worried about are other diners who... More

We've visited this two years running. Fine dining so best for a couple's night out - the food is out of this world. Amazing tasting menu and matching wine is a treat. Beautiful views over the valley to the sounds of the local sheep.

I've been to Le Gindreau several times now, but the last time was two or three years ago. It's always been brilliant, but this time - end of July - I found that there was a new owner and chef and what had been extremely good shifted up a gear to super-excellent. I'm quite severely cows' milk intolerant, and my... More
