I've had the fortune in life to be able to travel to many places in this world of ours. Some exotic some not. I find in my home state some of the most beautiful places I could hope to experience, Tahoe is one of them. That being said it seems that there is a fundamental correlation between "tourist" destinations and... More

We have been on vacation for a week all over CA. We have had a lot of great meals, but THIS is by far the best we have had in all of CA!! Yes, it is a little pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. From the friendly, attentive staff, to the lovely setting and seating, to the... More

South Tahoe is a good-food desert. And the upper end of the dining spectrum is populated with a few joynts like this that take themselves way seriously. If the prices were lower or the attitude a little less self-satisfied, this would be an OK spot for the occasional dinner. In other words, some of their dishes are quite good. But... More

Initially I was very concerned about your post, and then after reviewing some of your previous reviews I saw that you had given Michael Mina in SF two stars as well. So I guess we're in good company. Since you apparently masqerade as a restaurant critic, you should at least consider using your real name and taking full credit for... More

We ate here for Valentine's Day, which was a hard reservation to get as this place is so small. They had a prix fixe menu that night, which was delicious and reasonable. Being from LA, we thought the wine list prices were a steal (good selection). The only negative was the reservation process was a hassle...you had to send in... More

Loved Evan's. I made Valentines Day dinner reservations about a month and a half in advance. Required a credit card to hold the reservation considering it was a very busy holiday. The menu was listed online so we knew what they would offer that evening. We were seated immediately. Dinner was $75 a person and you got to chose from... More

Drove by it 3 times but thanks to the Lady's phone we got there. Evans Cafe is tucked away in an old house. Menu was expansive with several appealing specials. The lady had scallops & I tried the Chilean Sea Bass. Both meals were outstanding. Excellent wine list thanks to the Chef who is also a wine expert. The real... More

Food was excellent. Beef was grilled to perfection, scallops were exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Wine selection by the glass was short, but both the cab franc and the pinot were stunning.

Feels like you are eating over at a friends house. Very elegant living room feel to the dining room. Loved how they brought over the whiteboard with specials because I always forget half of what was said. We had a savory cheesecake appetizer that was very unique and plenty big to share. I ordered a sea bass dish that was... More

The ambience reflects an intimate meal in an old county house setting. However, the food and service are comparable to any fine dining you would experience in larger cities such as San Francisco or LA. I have eaten here several times and each meal was excellent. The staff is engaging with true Tahoe warmth but very sophisticated in their service.

Came here with high expectations and big appetites, left completely satisfied. Only surprise was the friendliness of the owner, who visited our table often, joked with us, and recommended some superb wines that paired well with our food...and were less expensive than what we were considering. Thank goodness, as the food was not cheap, but certainly a fine dining experience,... More
