Great location by the bay. Nice and spacious. Had a quiet lunch on a Monday afternoon. Generally nice. Food was alright but not the best. Had mussels for $19. They weren't exactly as large as those which I've had at other parts of New Zealand but they were still alright. Sauce was tasty. Service was okay, fairly quick since there... More

Went here for breakfast, had the jellyfish breakfast. Was amazing as always. But the older lady with the glasses I can't say the same for. Her coffee was burnt and spilt all over the saucer. Very unfriendly and stuck up. Snatched the menu off me and my partner. Not a good start to my day.

Awesome fire on a cold evening, atmosphere on a Friday night was great, food though is ok but not upto the environment, we had crispy sliced sourbread and dips to start which had really strange tasting bitter black olives on it and a thai pork starter and cider Mussels, both we're very salty! However we would go back for drinks... More

We had the lunch at this place as part of the mapua smoke house experience, although the smoke house was not as good of the range as what I remembered. The surrounding area definitely has more eating place to offer. This place does a sit down lunch and the service is pretty warm and relaxed with the sea view just... More

Stopped in Mapua to eat on our way to Kaiteriteri from the airport. We really enjoyed the food, especially the mussels. Service was friendly, great cider.

Has a great setting BUT the food is really no more than superior pub grub, which is fine other than the fact they are charging prices which are close to those of Nelson's premier restaurant (which offers considerably better meals). Wine list is not extensive, and mark ups on local wines are on the high side. Service friendly if slow.... More

The Jellyfish Cafe and Bar was just outstanding. Beautiful setting (right next to the water) and excellent food. In fact, we went back 3 times while on our 1 week stay at Nelson!

Mapua is a little off the main road but it's quirky little shops, bars and cafés make it worth the visit. Nestled on an estuary the facilities are all built around what looks to be an old fishing wharf and factory.

the Jellyfish Cafe has the most glorious location and setting - it is tastefully decorated - plenty of outdoor seating and has a very relaxed serene atmosphere. On our visit, we were their first customers of the day and the only thing to mar the outing was slightly surly staff. A smile and a welcome would have done wonders.
