Service with a smile

Great pub, great atmosphere complemented by roaring log-fires (in the appropriate seasons!). I visit this pub several times a year when I am in the area and it has become a favourite with most of the familiy. The steaks are particularly well done ( if you forgive the pun!) On this occasion we even... read more

This is one of the more popular summer country pub visits fairly close to Croydon. Me and my partner have been going there since we met 11 years ago and still love it. The menu is extensive and includes wholesome British food like posh burgers as well as more exotic foods like the dish i ordered yesterday which was 1/2... More

We had lunch with our friends on Wednesday the 22 April at The White Bear. It was my friends husbands 82 birthday and he had insisted on treating myself and my partner. Because we were not paying the bill, we felt unable to complain. My liver and bacon was almost inedible, the liver tasteless and overcooked, the mashed potato synthetic... More

Great food and service. We had steak and chips and it was lovley. They have a good range of ciders and ales. No strongbow:) Lovely views and outside space. Inside is great as you have lots of nooks and crannies.

Met up with a friend for lunch at The White Bear during the school holidays. We only wanted something light, so directed to the sandwiches menu. A lovely selection was on offer - sandwiches seem to be out of fashion in pubs these days, but are perfect if you just fancied something light and the White Bear had a great... More

Was looking for a pub lunch in the country but was in central Croydon. So I headed out and found this quaint 16th Century in at the junction of Croydon and the countryside. Great. Varied menu, including a set lunch menu and specials. Only serves food before 3pm. I had a pie which is rare for me but it was... More

We had lunch there on Bank Holiday Monday, having reserved the table the night before. My husband's hamburger was nice, my son's pork with crackling was a bit better than average, and my sausages and mash were fairly average. The service was very swift. We were shown to our table immediately, our drinks came quickly and all the courses we... More

Working locally in South Croydon I was invited by friends to a meal at this venerable establishment which, I was told, was one of the last fully preserved coaching inns on the London/Brighton road. I hadn't known beforehand what to expect and, tucked away in the lee of the Surrey hills it was the last place I had expected to... More

Try the fillet steak, (better than i've eaten in top restaurants) comes up on a hot skillet be carefull when ordering as it's still cooking on the skillet.Service... More
