We placed our orders from the menu prior to going on our walk. On our return we did not have to wait long. The menu choice was good, especially the £8 for a choice of two courses. Although the portions were slightly smaller there was plenty. Those who thought they wouldn't have a large lunch and opted for the sandwiches... More

You can count on The Lord Nelson to have lovely daily specials in addition to the excellent menu of standards. The Cod and Chips on the standard menu is everything one would expect! Perfectly cooked cod, yummy and moist inside with a crisp coat, but not too much of it, served with chips cooked to perfection. The portions are generous... More

Good range of gluten free options but 'gluten free' fish and chips cooked in a fryer with other non gluten free food is no longer gluten free. Coeliacs can have no trace of gluten for food to be classed as gluten free and, despite a conversation about cross contamination with the owners, there was little acknowledgement that anything was wrong.... I visited with a friend midweek lunchtime. The pub was very quiet. They were offering a two course lunch for £8.50/£8.95??sorry can't remember exactly. Good pub basics, we both choose cod and chips and Christmas pudding. Excellent fresh cod, with a great batter. Not a huge portion but quite enough. To find Christmas pud was a bonus, served as requested... More

We were told a well known ex-politician frequented here, (he will remain anonymous as I want to respect his privacy) and funnily enough, he and his wife gave us there table, as the pub was full and he happened to be leaving. So thank you for that! We ordered a few rounds of Chips, and sausage on ciabatta with cheddar... More

The Lord Nelson is a real treasure. Situated in a very pretty hamstone village close to the A303, it is definitely worth a small detour. Filled with very friendly locals, it has a lovely atmosphere enhanced by candlelight. The food was absolutely delicious. Plump mussels in a creamy white wine sauce, tuna cooked to perfection and a chilli burger that... More

I only get to use this lovely pub about once a month but the food is always first class. High restaurant cuisine served without losing the feel of a great country pub. Just had a business lunch with clients and the Christmas menu was fantastic which we couldn't resist despite it being only the 3rd December! Delicious lamb.. wow! Service... More

Hi visited the general area in September 2013. I really enjoyed the meal and the price was good value for money. My grand parents where both born in this part of England and I hope to return again for a longer stay . I am sure I will visit the pub again one day.

Needed somewhere to have lunch, had dog with us and needed to take mother out. This is a pub not far from where my mother lives. Being well past retirement age she enjoyed the food and the service, our dog loved it (sausages) and we had and excellent lunch. The menu was varied, the food well cooked, and the staff... More
