Delicious food, friendly & welcoming food, lovely atmosphere.

I met with a group of colleagues here for food & skittles, as a 'Leaving do'. We had ordered sausage and chips. As I was the only vegetarian in the group I had pre-warned the Pub who cooked me an absolutely delicious leek & cheese pie with a large bowl of salad for us all to also share. The... read more

Dog Friendly. Had the lunchtime special which could be 2 or 3 courses, we decided to have 2 courses. The portions weren't huge but then you would expect that if you are having 2 courses. the food was very good, we tried the Lamb shank and the Vegetable pie with salad and new potatoes. We then tried the Chocolate brownie... More

Second time we've been here and will be back again. Good atmosphere and welcoming, friendly staff. Every course was great, good size portions and obvious care taken with every plate. The home made shortbread that came with the pannacotta just melted in your mouth! Large choice of flavoured ice creams. All meat cooked to perfection.

Went for a catch up with two friends. It was very busy for a Thursday evening so I was glad I had reserved a table. A nice choice of menu. We all had different food which turned up hot, well presented, and tasted lovely. The banoffee and almond tart was fabulous!! Even though it was busy we weren't kept waiting too... More

We visited at the beginning of August for lunch and to meet a family friend. I am coeliac and often struggle with pub menus because the main meals are often burgers or chips which are padded or coated with wheat. The Lord Nelson however had a separate gluten free menu and even had gluten free battered fish and chips! I... More

Yet again another meal that was enjoyed completely, slow cooked shoulder of lamb to share between two. You carve it at the table. Hot, tasty, plenty of vegetables. Satisfying food.

A lovely pub, but..... Still great food, but the waitresses and bar staff are not what they used to be. Most of them are very young and just plonk the food in front of you, no smile or chat! Such a shame as its still a great pub but I feel service is lacking.

Hi I'm sorry your experience at the Nelson was nt an enjoyable one . Generally our waitresses although young are usually very friendly and polite . Rest assured we will ensure this does not happen again . More

A year on from my last visit, and I wasn't disappointed. My friend and I returned for a "flying" visit. Great food, service, and laughed so much yet again with the locals that my face ached! We'll try not to leave it so long next time!

The staff were all friendly and cheerful, there was a warm welcoming atmosphere and as the evening went on and the pub filled up there was a real hub bub to it all. The food was freshly prepared and cooked, generous portions of fresh, seasonal vegetables and the dishes were beautifluly presented. The homemade pate was superb and I would... More

We placed our orders from the menu prior to going on our walk. On our return we did not have to wait long. The menu choice was good, especially the £8 for a choice of two courses. Although the portions were slightly smaller there was plenty. Those who thought they wouldn't have a large lunch and opted for the sandwiches... More
