Lovely Birthday Dinner

While spending my birthday weekend in Gulval, my partner took me to The Coldstreamer for my birthday dinner. We were seated in a cosy alcove at the back of the restaurant. I truly don't understand the good reviews this restaurant is getting. We went based on the reviews, but had a completely different experience it seems. We were made to feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. Although the restaurant was half empty, we were told by an extremely arrogant older man (possibly the manager) that we would have to wait... The barman/manager's humour was so dry I felt obliged to order another pint. In spite of his sarcasm, this spectacled European runs a tight ship. With several local real ales and CAMRA in full force and small but carefully chose menu, the coldstreamer is ideal for a quiet pint after a long walk or a fine meal in their restaurant,... More

The entrée was the best pork-belly I have ever tasted. The Fish and Chips served up the best battered fish I have ever had. There was a good selection of beers and ciders. The two staff we met were welcoming, friendly and fun. The whole four of us wished we had discovered this wonderful food at this quaint Inn on... More

We are locals and my mother is terminally ill and my father if a sick man we are taking them out every week to let them enjoy what time they have left together. I was looking for somewhere different to take them. We were freezing cold in the dinning room and even me who does not feel the cold had... More

We were a large group visiting for a family birthday party. The food was amazing, something different and a talking point. The service was great, a real achievement to get out fifteen meals all together and all cooked excellently. We will all be returning. Excellent value for money for such fantastic food.

Lovely bed and linen. Big room. Dog friendly.great staff. Not much to dislike. There is a bit of noise from the dining area and pub - but that seems pretty normal. The church bells ring every hour - we slept through it pretty well. The food is very good - with a thoughtful menu. Loved the cinder toffee pudding -... More

This is the second time we have been here, once to stay as well, which was brilliant, but this time just for Sunday Lunch with family. The food on this occasion as the last was excellent on the whole. All our mains were beautifully cooked, very tasty and good portions. The desserts were very good and again good portion size but... We used to go often, especially for Sunday lunch. Last year things changed and we had a couple of poor meals, stopped going. Our daughter told us there was a new chef and we gave it another go. Much better. We had the tapas type food from the blackboard and it was very nice.
