We have visited most of the gastro pubs in the area and this is by far the best food and service. Amazing Tarte Tatin and great steaks.

Visited here with my wife Jane, at the end of March, courtesy of a free charity raffle prize. Booked a date and table, but had to change it due to our dog sitting mother in law, falling over and breaking her shoulder, so inconsiderate! Anyway, rescheduling was not a problem, and we arrived early afternoon to enjoy our prize. Check... More

The food here is good quality pub food. The prices aren't the cheapest, but the portions are generous. There are also seven dishes reduced to £7 each in the evening. The service is helpful, friendly and efficient. Altogether, this is a pleasant place to eat.

We enjoyed two delicious dinners here! The food was good, but the atmosphere and service added to our decision to go back for a second visit.

Visited on a lunchtime, mid week. The restaurant was very quiet with only three tables being served. One of our party opted for the lamb with garlic mash and the second for a veggie salad. The lamb was OK and edible, but not fantastic. On this occasion the garlic mash was somewhat overpowering and the lamb jus, rather mediocre in... More

We visited the Durham for Sunday dinner, the guys shared a Chateaubriand for their roast instead of the traditional slices of sirloin. It was a treat, a little more expensive, beautifully presented and super tasting, well worth the extra. The theme was continued with desert a huge bowl of berry pavlova to share, everyone's eyes followed the dish to the... More

Good Sunday lunch. Meat eaters were well catered for with beef, chicken or lamb roasts with all the trimmings. Vegetarians did not have so much choice - salads or just one hot option (dahl curry).
