went for the iguana too

We waited over an hour to get our meal (we arrived at around 2:00 and the place was not busy). They put condiment bowls of mayo on the table at the beginning so they sat in the heat for an hour too. The food was mediocre (I thought the iguana was tasty- my friends did not). The ladies at the... read more

First time to the island. Not knowing where to go, a local recommended Jaanchies, and we were glad she did.We were a group of 11 and they were very nice. Beer was ice cold and the food was outstanding. The goat stew was incredible, as was the Creole grouper. Rice, beans and plantains came with. All eleven plates were great.... More

Far and away our favorite restaurant in Curacao. The iguana did, indeed, taste like chicken and everything else, including the goat stew, was delicious. The atmosphere was lovely and genuine--no resort chain restaurant here--and the people incredibly friendly. The other patrons looked like locals--that says it all.

The iguana was very tasty.. Service was on par for the island. I will say that it was a bit pricey but, you are paying for the experience.

Service is hardly there. Prices are undisclosed. Food not very good. Other choices around that are better.

We were there last week, the owner explained to us the menu there is nothing written down,so nobody knows nothing about the prices. The food was not good, the owner is a friendly person, the staff is not so friendly.

The food was not very good at all. My fish was overcooked (yes, it's possible!) and the goat stew had more inedible fat pieces than actual meat. We paid more than at the Nautilus (best food on the island at the Renaissance Hotel) and it wasn't worth it at all. Completely overpriced! The birds feeding on sugar right outside of... More

One place that you can consistently get good food in a great atmosphere is Jaanchies in Westpunt on Curacao. We just returned from a 2 week trip to Curacao and drove out to Westpunt twice. One time was just ourselves and the second trip with friends who had come to Curacao for some diving. Everyone enjoyed the food and you... More

We visited here 7 years ago and nothing has changed. The food is as good as we remembered it. Mr. Jaanchie still pulls up a chair beside your table to tell you what is on the menu and to take your order. The birds are delightful and the meal is unforgettable. Its worth the drive. Arrive with an appetite. Opens... More

What a fantastic experience. It is a "scene" in an idyllic setting with beautiful birds at feeders right outside the open windows. The food is prepared to your specifications but also with local flair. The owner comes to the table and tells you what he has and takes your order personally. Go out of your way to eat here!
