Don't go there expecting European "haute cuisine", but to sample the real, grandma's cooking, down to earth meals like every Curacaoan fondly remembers their grandmother or "yaya" for. The ambiance is somewhat aimed at tourists, but the talking menu is a remnant of the days past when customers talked to the restaurant owner about what they wanted to eat. We... More

Im sorry while the owner seems nice and does indeed just tell you what they have for the day you cant help but feeling you are getting the tourist rates as he asks where you are from, where your parents are from, where your grandparents from almost as if he is searching for a reason to give you a local... We dined here our second evening after arriving Curacao. As the norm, Jaanchie (extremely nice man) came out and gave us the rundown on the menu items available and prepared our request. The food was excellent as was the price. My husband and I had different kinds of fish paired with shrimp with fries and rice. The portions were large... More

Jaanchies is a very nice place to eat while in Curacao! It may be nothing you are used with from the cities you live in or you have travelled to, but this is exactly what I love about it! Its location, the very friendly owners, the very unusual presentation of the menu and, not the last, the possibility of trying... More

We went to Jaanchies for dinner. We arrived at 7:25 pm and were the last customers they let in- so go early! Mr. Jaanchie is VERY charming. As other reviewers stated, there is no menu, he just comes to your table and describes what they're serving that night. My friends and I tried the fish, shrimp, and pork chip entrees-... More

If you're going to Westpunt and have time on your hands, you might consider this resturant. We waited for more than hour before we were even asked what do we want to eat. Lots of people left the restaurant because they got tired of waiting. This might have been a one time thing of course but seems it might happen... More

Our family of 5 ate here to have iguana stew and other exotic delicacies. This place is a "must do" tourist attraction. No locals here.. As it turns out the other delicacies are rarely on the menu and the iguana was overcooked causing the tiny bones to be dangerous when swallowing. Like eating a fish with too many bones. You... More

The positives are the atmosphere, with live music and birds flying around. After that, it's all downhill. The owner is indeed personable, with his "talking menu", but the food is mediocre and totally overpriced. This is a lovely island, and there are so many good places, this review is intended to help others avoid our mistake. Please take it in... More

Everything is fun about this place. The talking menu. The food. The birds. The people. It's worth the trip to Westpunt.

Although Jaanchie's is about an hour drive from Willemstad it was worth the trip! If you want really savoury local food this is the spot to visit. Jaanchie himself takes your order and explains the dishes. The service was prompt. The atmosphere was beautiful with birds feeding just outside the eating area. If you feel adventurous be sure to try... More
