Sunday lunch

My friends and I are all on our own so we go out for Sunday lunch. Been to quite a few places but the 'Wheaties' beats them all. The 'small' carvery is huge and the Yorkies and roasties are spot on. Also they serve my favourite, mashed potatoes. There's a choice of three types of gravy and any... read more

We arrived at 12.15 and asked if they had a table, as we had been let down badly by the Coquetvale Hotel in Rothbury. A very nice lady behind the bar said we could have a table in the bar area. Really happy with this as we had arrived with no notice. The restaurant area was packed, so we had... More

Valentines night special menu. We have enjoyed many evenings at this restaurant and their 2specials, such as Burns Night and Valentines are always good, often very good. The food was excellent and service, although a little disjointed, pleasant. My only disappointment was the desert - promised Kellys ice cream and got something horribly cheap and totally tasteless.

Our first walk of the year up to the mystical Drakes Stone in Harbottle was to be followed by a our first visit to this quintessential English pub for Sunday lunch. How quickly our excitement changed to discontentment and a sharp exit! Outside is a superb establishment inside is hopeless. We were greeted half-halfheartedly by a young girl whisked through... I have stayed here a few times in the past. It has new owners (new since we last went) the place is wonderful. Beautiful views. really comfy rooms and very clean. The food in the restaurant was beautiful and very reasonably priced too. The service was excellent even though they were very busy that evening. You cant beat the Northumbrian... More

We dropped in while travelling across Northumberland. The restaurant does have great views across to the hills which can be dramatic when the weather sets in however, it felt a bit untidy. The menu selection was acceptable for a pub but I was disappointed with the standard of the meal I selected. However, my wife was satisfied with hers. Our... More

This is the village Pub in Thropton, but the food is sublime! I had wonderful large garlic prawns, served in a shell, followed by monkfish tails, scallops and more prawns. The fish is lovely on the menu. they had changed the menu a bit since we last visited. But overall, the others meals of steak, and chicken were lovely and... More
