Lovely Food in an unassuming setting

We had a dinner for two a la carte here recently while staying in Hexham. The inn is charming and a bit out of town but worth the taxi ride. I think it was the main chef's day off - but it was still in capable hands with his assistant. We both had ham hock terrine with vegetables to start... read more

Have the twice-baked cheese souffle - the Barrasford Arms is renowned for it! Wonderful rural setting, great bar, charming restaurant areas and just great food. I do like supporting hard-working individual establishments working hard to produce a really good place to eat/drink/stay.

We decided go for an early Mothers day meal so booked for the Saturday evening. Popped into the bar first which was nice and friendly and very relaxed. The dining room was a little chilly but we were an early booking and it soon warmed up as more people joined us. I wasn't really sure what to expect and did... More

We went to the hotel recently and were not impressed on nearly every count. As soon as you walked in there was a smell of old burned chip fat and the place looked tired and unkept. The service was good but the meal was not what we had expected. So many people said it was something special - that may... More

We had reserved this in advance having read other reviews and very glad we visited. Stayed 5 miles up the road at the Battlesteads and on the balance of meals over two nights, this kitchen was superior. Good welcome and service from staff, explanation and presentation of dishes was excellent. I dithered over the fresh turbot option and settled for... More

We decided to try this recommendation out for a family birthday meal and could not have been happier. Delicious food, well presented with good quality ingredients. Service was pleasant and the atmosphere was great for a Saturday evening. Only thing is - salad and veg came drenched in dressing and butter- still very nice but took the edge off it... More

My Husband and I stayed Saturday 7th March. We had a great welcome followed by a drink in the Bar -the locals were extremely friendly and we were very quickly included in their conversation. After a wonder around the village which is right on Hadrian's Wall, we joined the other diners in the Restaurant. We had seen the recommendations for... More

Having visited the Barrasford arms for many years what amazes me is the consistency of the quality of the food. I have eaten there for midweek lunch and evening meals, and weekend evening meals and Sunday lunch and have never had any cause for complaint. The staff are friendly and welcoming. My personal favourite is the cheese soufflé starter which... More

This place is amazing. I can not understand how anyone who likes good food could say otherwise. There was four of us dining and food we had on this occasion was for starters - fish cake, cheese soufflé, goats cheese Bon bons. Main meals - sharing steak dish for 2, veal and lamb. All the veg or chips served with... More

Two of us went one Thursday lunchtime, The place was very quiet. Unusually so according to the staff. The menu was in the process of being typed up for that day. I saw this as a good sign. Menu changing daily depending on what produce was available. Menu came. 4 starters, 4 mains, 4 desserts. Ideal. I hate places where... More
