Simply the best food in Northumberland by a country mile

My wife and I have dined at the Barrasford Arms on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. Last night was no exception. The Barrasford Arms is a wonderful pub / restaurant / small hotel, set in beautiful Northumberland village of Barrasford near Hexham. Owner is a top chef - Tony Binks. Food is utterly 5 star - a menu impossible to choose from. Tony and his staff are lovely people. Most ingredients are sourced locally, including pheasants, rabbit and the like shot... More

Superb beer, attentive and friendly staff. Don't be put off with the occasional braying toff, its part of the attraction; like a living zoo. Steak and Chips, peppercorn sauce and great ale. What's not to like. Try the walk along the Tyne before or after.

We travelled to this pub from Newcastle, about 45 mins drive, really looking forward to our lunch having read the reviews and looked at the menu online. First impressions were not that great. Ordinary looking pub in need of some redecorating. We went inside to a small bar which had a roaring fire going. We ate in the bar as... More

Our lunch for four was a very pleasant experience. We started with a remarkably good cheese soufflé and broth. This was followed by good steak, gammon and salmon, and equally good crême brulée. Good coffee, too. In sum, everything which any of us ate was right on target. Oh, yes - and the bread rolls (somebody in another review objected... More

An excellent lunch of pheasant pie, packed full of big chunks of meat, with a light, but crispy pastry. I visit Hexham once a month to take my elderly father out to lunch. We have exhausted many of the country restaurants within a 15 mile radius of Hexham, but this was my first time at the Barrassford Arms. There is... More

My husband and I stopped in for lunch the other day as we were passing through Northumbria. What a great experience! We stopped based on reviews on Tripadvisor and that it was listed on the Via Michelin website. Mushroom soup, navarine of lamb (just top notch - every bite a flavor bomb!), and their sticky toffee pudding were superb. This... More

Having not been here for a while we decided to go for Sunday lunch we waited a while after placing our order. As we were hungry we ate the two bread rolls that the waitress had brought as I was having soup I asked if I could have another bread roll. And for the first time in all the years... More

It's done with style here, the food was fab. A starter of pate followed by a steak cooked to perfection. Others had venison which got the thumbs up as did the veggie option. Tony wasn't cooking it's was down to his understudy and he nailed it. Can't find a fault Again. Best pub food in the Tynedale area.

Yes,we cleared our plates as the food was delicious. One of those days when you make the right choices and quite often spontaneous, which us going there was.The staff and service was efficient.Friendly place too.It is a while since we have been but will revisit soon.Lovely fresh food ,beautifully cooked but unpretentious.I have a small business so will be reminding my customers...
