Located in the village of Bridge, just outside Canterbury, The Red Lion is a traditional British pub with a splash of French restaurant flair. Eye-catching from the outside, The Red Lion boasts a uniquely old fashioned exterior brought up-to-date with a lick of light coloured paint, while inside is comfortable and cosy, a traditional space with olde worlde charm in its rough beams and pillars the ideal village pub. But while the dcor might be traditional, The Red Lions menu is less so. With the influence of host Rene Renault (from Rennes no less), the kitchen has added French sophistication to locally sourced ingredients - including eggs from the owners own hens in modern creative dishes.

Following our intent to try a new pub food place once a month, we had an evening out at the Red Lion on Tuesday and were quite impressed. The food was really good. We had a ballotine of chicken and the salted cod and also thought the price to be quite reasonable for what we had. The Adnams beer... read more

We stumbled across the Red Lion one Monday evening and popped in for a bite, the food was fantastic I had the salted cod which was terrific and my partner had the belly of pork. We had an older lady with dark hair serve, who did not smile and came across rude and arrogant. The young man behind the bar... More

The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back so take your time. Be was our waitress and she was bright and well-mannered. The bar staff were also lovely. There were four of us and we ordered roast pork, cheeseburger, creamed mushrooms and gammon and chips. The menu is locally sourced and I really enjoyed my pork. I'll certainly recommend this place... We have been visiting this pub for a number of years on an annual Easter family break and have always enjoyed our visits. This year however was a different story! Hardly anything available on the menu, waited for nearly an hour for starter that never arrived! Staff didn't have a clue! I assume it has been taken over by new... More

My partner and I turned up at the Red Lion at around 6.00pm Saturday 28th and asked the bar staff if they were serving food, they replied that they were but the chef had not turned up yet. I asked what time the chef turned up and the response was when he gets here. I thought well it was early... More

We visited the Red Lion with friends for lunch. We were disappointed with the menu, finding it limited and the fish choice was unavailable. Our steak pie en croute was dreadful. I expect a dish en croute to be encased in pastry but this was a casserole dish of thin soup with a pastry lid. It was bland and the... More

It is with regret that I give a poor rating to a previously enjoyable pub. With a group of walking friends visited the premises, we were unimpressed with the choice of menu, but the majority of the party opted for an en croute dish. This was served as a pie with an extremely watery soup, with little meat content. Not... More

We here for dinner last night. Incredible food. They have a new chef and the a La Carte menu is excellent. Really good value. Service was brilliant. I can't fault a thing. Rene the landlord seems to have found a great balance between smart restaurant and relaxed country pub. Really worth a visit.

We have been using the Red Lion weekly for about two years, we very pleased to see the new offer 2 Courses for £12.50 last month, but this now seems to have been terminated, no explantion. The food is OK but very over priced when you look around at other places (we travel 7 miles to go to the Red... More
