Ranked #2 of 4 restaurants in Bridge
Certificate of Excellence 2013
Cuisines: French, Contemporary, Gastropub
Dining options: Reservations, Late Night
Description: Located in the village of Bridge, just outside Canterbury, The Red Lion is a traditional British pub with a splash of French restaurant flair. Eye-catching from the outside, The Red Lion boasts a uniquely old fashioned exterior brought up-to-date with a lick of light coloured paint, while inside is comfortable and cosy, a traditional space with olde worlde charm in its rough beams and pillars the ideal village pub. But while the dcor might be traditional, The Red Lions menu is less so. With the influence of host Rene Renault (from Rennes no less), the kitchen has added French sophistication to locally sourced ingredients - including eggs from the owners own hens in modern creative dishes.

We used to visit the Red Lion frequently but haven't been for over 3 years due to moving away. We got a very friendly welcome, the pub was buzzing and the menu was varied. The mussels were excellent and the set menu was good value. Would have liked a main course salad option. We will return when we are next... More

We came her for dinner one Saturday night before Christmas. Rene and Harry and extremely welcoming. The waiting staff were helpful. The food and choice on offer great. The pub looks clean and is very nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere. Definitely my favourite pub in this area. Fantastic for kids too. Rene seems to have managed to create... More

Bev & I had a Christmas meal here recently and the food was quite poor the Gravadlax was not of good quality, the Turkey main had overcooked hard roast potatoes which were probably left in a heated dish for hours and the Veg was hard. Christmas pudding was individual mini puds that you buy in Asda for £1 obviously microwaved... More

Nice and homely with a bit if a twist the food is tasty but fancy for a pub and slightly overpriced despite having a taste card!!! Fine for a Tuesday night but nothing special!!!

Very disappointed with our meal on this occasion. The duck was so tough it was very difficult to get a knife through it. The pudding, a syrup sponge, was very heavy and under heated obviously in the microwave. There was just a trace of custard. We both felt very disappointed and will not be going back again.

A really great place to visit. There is a good choice of food, really scrummy more traditional pub/bar food as well as a good a la carte. What elevates it though is the really warm and welcoming staff and the overall ambiance which combines village pub with restaurant with effortless ease . We felt we would have been welcomed for... The owners are always very friendly and the pub well kept. I was there recently for a birthday party in the garden - they have done a lot of work on it and it looked great. The finger food was very good and the evening enjoyable!

Wonderful food as ever and served in lovely surroundings. Staff always friendly here and this visit was no exception. Also like the way the menu varies on each visit.

Didn't expect to be disappointed by the Red Lion yesterday but maybe this was due to short staffing in the kitchen? Lovely cosy clean pub and good ambience, prompt attention but..........paying £18.95 for a very small piece of Turbot and 4 mussels is really taking the mickey. Accompanied by green beans and decoration but this was verging on trades description!... More
