Description: Located in the village of Bridge, just outside Canterbury, The Red Lion is a traditional British pub with a splash of French restaurant flair. Eye-catching from the outside, The Red Lion boasts a uniquely old fashioned exterior brought up-to-date with a lick of light coloured paint, while inside is comfortable and cosy, a traditional space with olde worlde charm in its rough beams and pillars the ideal village pub. But while the dcor might be traditional, The Red Lions menu is less so. With the influence of host Rene Renault (from Rennes no less), the kitchen has added French sophistication to locally sourced ingredients - including eggs from the owners own hens in modern creative dishes.

We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. However, we sat in the garden with our 2 children who were excited to see a play area. They went rushing off to play. Only then did we notice about 5 bigs piles of dog poo (from a large dog) around the garden. Of course both our children stood in... More

This is a pub that was on the up but now seems to have seen a little decline in food quality. Great hosts and service but the food sadly doesn't come up to scratch any more. We have tried a few times now and been slightly disappointed on each occasion in recent visits. Great location and nice seating options both... More

Having eaten here for lunch with my mum and found the food very nice and service good, I thought I would book the restaraunt for my sons 16th birhday. What a disappointment. We all had the sunday roast along with a starter. The onion soup was greasy, the garlic and cream mushrooms were tiny button mushrooms chopped up and swimming... More

Food, not as described, onion soup was actually a stew and the garlic mushrooms was actually a soup... Yes I know? My wife and I ordered the belly pork thinking we would get a think slice of pork with a lovely cracking, no..just slices of pork, a roast pork dinner. It was OK but I can certainly cook better at... Lovely country pub with good service. Food was good quality but very little of it. Vegetables were almost non exsistant. My plate had the potatoes missing and had to ask for them. A delay while they were cooked. The food also did not match the menu. The waiter was taking complaints from all tables, not sure he was passing info... More

You will be welcomed by some of the best hosts in the business, the delightful Monsuir Rene and Harry and their lovely team. Always service with a smile and a happy "Bonjour Monsuir et Madame" Beautiful garden, lovely ambience. Delicious food. Great music after 9.00pm. Lots of fun and friendly people

After yet another indifferent meal endured in Canterbury I thought I must write a review for the Red Lion, which has never let us down. (I don't know why we eat anywhere else) The Red Lion is a very attractive, clean, well maintained historic English pub run by a Frenchman! The food is excellent, good value, very well presented, served... More

Booked in here by chance, and left after a pleasant evening and a substantial meal. Good ambiance and a fair amount of Anglo/French banter among the locals and with the host. Service attentive but not obtrusive. The aspagus and ducks egg starter was excellent, and the pork loin that followed was similarly good and left no room for a dessert!... More

stumbled across The Red Lion hoping for a late bite to eat with my partner yesterday. Friendly landlord with a lovely dog (we also had ours with us), we ordered Sausage & Mash and a Burger. Both were very well presented, great portions and tasted great. Could not fault the Sausage & Mash and the bacon in the burger really... More
