Well worth a visit

Had lunch there today, very good and great value. Aside from usual full menu and snacks, they now do small bar food too (e.g. Cheesy chips, fried onion rings and more). Still one of the nicest traditional pub buildings. The landlady, Karen, is really helpfuland has good friendly staff.

Advised by the owners of Cottage Crest B&B and worthy to be recorded. The food is of a high level, the presentation of the dishes was dazzling en the waitress very charming.

We ate here for a Sunday lunchtime and were really impressed. It's a lovely light restaurant area inside looking out over the oub garden, and nicely decorated for Christmas. We all had the sunday roast (which had different meat options) and thought it was excellent quality and very tasty, with very generous servings. Amazed it was only £10 for a... More

Last night I held my 40th birthday party at the Horse & Groom. I cannot thank Karen and her excellent team enough for making my special birthday even more special. I wanted an Italian themed buffet, Matt and the team in the Kitchen listened to every detail I wanted and he more than delivered that! The food was excellent, every... More

There was a beer festival, sort of, so no bitter available inside. Took ten minutes to get served so wasn't going to go outside to start again. Ordered lager. Wife tried outside..but nobody was serving outside. There were only three staff, trying hard, and they weren't coping. Menu was brief, not much more than cheese on toast or burger. "Burger"... More

We invited friends over and decided to use the Horse and Groom as our meeting point. However our friends older teenage children checked out the Horse and Groom on their website, and weren't over enthused by the menu! Our family couldn't understand it as we've eaten here numerous times and thought the menu was quite good. The numbers dwindled down... More

We ate here twice last week because we had a cottage 100 yards away. It was no better than Ok to be honest. The menu was uninspiring and felt boring on the second visit. The bread on the chicken burger was half stale. The dauphinoise potatoes were very good, the veg cooked well but the lamb shank was a bit... More

We returned to this pub for the 10th time in as many years because I heard there was a new manager hoped the food would have improved. My wife and I were not looking for a lot but the Roast Hog was indifferent, too much skin and minimum meat, the bap was a pathetic piece of stodge, but the crackling... More

Went to the Doom & Gloom for three evening meals (kitchen closes at 6pm on a Sunday). Typical pub atmosphere with a good staff. Kitchen very accommodating to my the dietary requirements of my wife. Good English type food served with a good English pint (or two!) Stop by for a coffee, lunch or an evening meal - you wont... More

Known locally as Doom & Gloom, this pub seems doomed to bad management, after a brief spell a few months ago when it improved due to a good chef, now gone, sadly. Walked out as the menu had no veggie mains (1970s attitude and service). Great welcome and veg options found nearby at the Fighting Cocks, Godshill. It is a... More
