Just the place to pause while sightseeing

We went for a lunch time snack while waiting for the electric train back to Douglas. Very pleasant garden and lovely toasties. My husband appreciated the beer. Pleasant and friendly service, we were really tempted to wait for the later train in order to visit the fair.

If there is one thing that this pub needs, it is not better staff, or better cooking skills, (although these things would help), but competition in Laxey. The problem with a local monopoly, is that there is no need to give the punters something different or special, because nobody is going to top their offering anyway. The place could be... More

This tavern adjoins the Manx Electric Railway Laxey station .From the front pub garden you can enjoy food and drink as the Manx Electric and Snaefell Mountain tram cars go back and forth, up and down the coast or mountain. If this is not enough then the public bar counter is modelled in the shape of one side of a... More

Well placed at the Tram Terminus, formally the Captain of the mines house - From the outside does not look inviting - real ale is available, the staff are friendly.

The best location in Laxey, the only pub in this area, but what a missed opportunity here. Service slightly chaotic with the (I assume) manager reading a paper whilst the staff clearly struggled to take two orders on the till. On asking for a Tuna and Cheese sandwich, but without the cheese, they had to summons the chef, who then... More

The Mines Tavern is in a great location by the Laxey Railway Junction and is a characterful, historic pub with a lovely garden. However when we visited the staff seemed very disinterested in serving anyone other than their regulars (who congriated at the end of the bar, blocking access to the mens toilets). The food offering was very basic 'pub... More

We only had half an hour to spend here one evening so did not have time to eat, but I enjoyed a fine pint of Okells MPA and a bag of crisps. The pub had a very pleasant atmosphere, with a mixture of locals and tourists. The sort of pub I would be happy to have in my village.

I have eaten and drunk at this hostelry several times over the last few years, and for such an iconic location, I always feel short changed. This place could be so much better if they tried a little bit harder. There's nothing especially wrong with it, but it just feels so "run of the mill". When I eat out, I... More

Visited as part of a large group on a Sunday lunch time.Pub was extremely quiet considering it was the Laxey 1960's day/weekend. There was 14 of us and we all ordered food and beer. Service was extremley slow as we had to order individually. Part of our food order (sandwiches and chips) arrived after a wait of over an hour... More
