A perfect lunch

On the large terrace overlooking St. Lizier and the foothills of the Pyrenees we had one of our best lunches during our two-week holiday in France. The two course prix fixe (euro 19) was absolutely near perfection with a beautiful Rognonnade (kidneys in a light sauce) as main dish, a flavourful plate from the old french bistro tradition. A great experience from the start, sitting outside on a lovely evening with fantastic views over the village and the mountains. As we were splashing out we went for the tasting menu and although not every course was to my taste, with dishes like ' tete de veau' they were all amazingly presented and tasty with good wine choices with... The exterior of the restaurant is a delightful terrace with superb views. Internally, it's all a bit 90s Italian in design with the only redeeming feature being the fluffy cloud lights. We chose from the vegetarian menu, which is a rarity in France. A major mistake was the amuse bouche, which included a foie gras brulee - unbelievable really. Gaspacho... More

What a fabulous restaurant. This is our second time here and it was not a disappointment. The view, the cocktail of the day, the lovely little extras from the menu, make the whole experience a real treat. When we got the credit card bill when we came home the whole lot was very reasonable in comparison with the average places... More

The menu "Carre de d'Huard" was our choice and as may be usual we ordered the alternatives and shared each course, and each course was special. The menu and the suggested wine by the glass were reasonably priced and as others have mentioned real value for the quality and inventiveness of the cuisine. And the room is just stunning, tables... Wow! wonderful panoramic view, superb service, and a meal to dream of! Wonderful and unusual menus, very high quality food and wine, from beginning to end. Excellent value for money. We went here for my father´s birthday and it was worth it! It was nice weather, so we sat on the terrace with views over the village. The only thing was that the fans couldn´t help us to cool down. First we tried the aperitif de la maison, a bit expensive but very original. It came with some original tapas.... More

You are unlikely to dine with better views than this anywhere in France.....absolutely stunning ! And the food isn't bad either.....some unusual and delicious combinations, and excellent little "freebies" served by attentive, but not overbearing staff.....and all very good value for money for the high quality of food. Highly recommended, and worth a detour if you are anywhere nearby

A visit with friends celebrating a birthday milestone. Relaxed and informal in style; busy without feeling pressured, and food and wine of the highest quality. From apero through amuse bouche to coffee, service was excellent. I don't usually mention particular dishes in reviews, as they are so personal, but I had steak tartare, which was certainly the best tartare, and... More

Four of us happened on Le Carre de l'Ange for summer lunch on the terrace -- but the experience would be worth a trip up the hill to the old bishop's palace. The view over the hills was magnificent, the service was precise and timely, the food was outstanding, and the value was considerable. Set menues ranged from 19 to... More
