Situated along The Street in Wickham Bishops, The Chequers pub is a lovely pub that serves good food and better beer. The garden is a little disappointing, but inside there is a warm, homely atmosphere. And - if you're a big ale fan - there is a decent selection of bitters and other beers to choose from, the pick of... More

Have just celebrated our Golden Wedding & what better way than to spend it with family & friends at our local pub! Joe,Becci and staff looked after us extremely well,we even had our own waitress,Chantal, who did a brilliant job in ensuring our glasses were always full! The meals were delicious, well presented and all ya the same time, nothing was too much... More

Went here with friends for a Sunday roast. Most of us had the roast beef which was very thin strips of meat. Large portions but everything tasted very bland and one of our children didn't eat much at all as said our home cooked roast and school dinner roast tasted better. Our friend had the steak and kidney pie which... More

Nice little pub with lots of character and friendly, welcoming staff. Lunch menu extensive with something to suit everyone - the portion sizes for the main meals are massive!!!! The Garlic Mushrooms were tasty and a perfect starter. Most of the main meals come with a choice of potatoes and vegetables. I chose the Somerset Chicken with Cider Sauce which... More

This is a small olde worlde country pub with excellent service and very good fresh cooked food. The menu catered for all tastes as did the specials board and we were spoilt for choice. Despite being fairly busy we didn't have to wait too long for our food. My wife had the ricotta cannelloni together with garlic bread & salad... More

My extended family (12 in total) recently visited this really friendly little pub for Sunday lunch. What a great choice, the roast lunch was really tasty, with a generous range of fresh vegetables and really well cooked meats. If you have a good appetite, I would highly recommend the mixed roast, a combination of the three roast meats of the... More

My partner and I went there for a Sunday lunch as the place was recommended to us by friends . We were told the portions were generous and as my partner has a very healthy appetite we thought we would give it a try as virtually impossible to find great food in large portions ie you always seem to get... We went yesterday for Sunday lunch, took friends with us that hadn't been before. On saying goodbye our friend said you can take me there again it was great. Have to say the roast dinner was one of the best we've had. Staff are so friendly and very good service.

Need to book if a weekend or a large booking. First time for an evening meal, great choice, all home cooked food, very busy, great service, was surprised we didn't have to wait as it was busy. Worth a visit
