Great Shrimp Dish

The coconut shrimp with the apple sauce was great. Going to try it at home. The service was over-the-top. When we were there, there were three other tables full. During our meal the waiter walked back and forth and back and forth in front of us. Surprised he didn't wear out the flooring area... read more

This mainly seafood restaurant was once a gem. It could be again. The food is adequate, but not great or original. Coconut shrimp with imported apples for a sauce instead of fresh tropical fruits? It sounds and tastes like something from a 1950s Betty Crocker cook book. Vegetables look and taste boring. I even suspect that some of the fish... More

Reasonable meal, but only ones in restaurant which is off putting. It was a Monday evening & waiter said it was always quiet. Restaurant not in a very good area & out of main area. Not sure whether fish was frozen or fresh.

The pro was that the service was good, but there was no challenge as there was only one other table. The local Yucatan dish of Cazon was awful. Minced shark meat in a bland tomato sauce between tortillas. The spaghetti with octopus ink and three large shrimp was good. We ordered wine by the glass which wasn't very good and... More

We visited La Pigua at the recommendation of our hotel. As it was quite busy we had to wait 1/2 hour to be seated. The service flowed smoothly after that. We ordered two courses each. While the first course still left room for interpretation as 'interesting', the mains did not. The mains were served lukewarm as if they had been... More

La Pigua in Campeche is supposed to be the original restaurant, but I found it very disappointed for the next reasons: - it was in an ugly neighborhood - they were way too long to bring our food even thought the restaurant was half empty( more then an hour) - the service was terrible - the food was not very... We had a reservation for a nice group, when we arrived (15 min early) the reservation had vanished. We were asked for the person who took the reservation, we didn't know the name.

The meal started out great with a ceviche made from sea bass. Ceviche de robalo excelente. From there it went down hill fast. Octopus platter resembling Pulpo al Gallego except that they used instant mashed potatos. Yuck. I suspect that they used regular vegetable oil instead of olive oil. Then it got worse. An expensive shrimp dish and the shrimp... More
