Does what it says on the tin

We normally go to the Meadery in Penzance when we come to Cornwall, however they were booked out for a party so we went to the one in Newlyn instead. It's a very different theme with the former being decked out (pardon the pun) as a pirate ship and Newlyn as a medieval banqueting hall! But the... read more

We had a take-away from here - my husband said the restaurant was really cool and very full but we didn't have the advantage of the ambience, so the food had to speak for itself. The spare ribs were not great, not much flavour at all - and I've had so much better form our local chinese take away. The... More

We came here mid-August 2015. There were four of us - me, my husband and my two teenage sons. It’s a nice, fun place to eat, where the waitresses are all dressed up in old fashioned clothes, you eat delicious crispy chicken and food from the salad bar. It gets very busy and you can’t book up in advance, so... More

Although we had to wait over an hour for a table (you can't book in advance), the atmosphere made it a pleasant wait. The mead was very moreish. Once we were shown to our table and ordered, the meals came fairly quickly. Food was basic, no fuss, but delicious

Take a trip back to medieval times, be prepared for candlelight and eating out of wooden bowls, we're led to believe cutlery has only been available for the last 18 months, this place is packed so get there early it opens at 6.30pm, there's normal a queue from 6pm, the menu is basically chicken, ribs mushrooms and other finger food,... Worth one visit for the experience then you can move on to better things. Retro restaurant stuck in the 70s/80s and none the better for it. My adolescent children liked the naffs of it but after a while even that wore off. Better lighting might help but there again you might be horrified at what's on your plate. Only one... More

Whilst staying in Newlyn, we decided to try this restaurant as it had good reviews and was a couple of minutes walk from our holiday rental. An extremely popular place, it opened at 6.30 but you need to be there before, as there is a queue waiting for the doors to open and you can't pre book. We arrived at... More

Arrived as a party of 8 and had absolutely no trouble seating us. Staff were very friendly and quick to deal with drinks and food etc. Food came out relatively quickly considering how busy, no complaints at all from any of us and all enjoyed chicken in the rough and the salad bar which had a very good selection of... We came here as a large party of 8 for my 5 year old daughters birthday tea. Firstly I want to say how we have visited this meadery many times and it has always been very good. We arrived at around 7:45pm and had roughly 10/15 minute wait for a table which isn't bad at all considering the time of... More

Get in early if you can especially in holiday periods. We went in Easter 2015 and it was packed. I had the whitebait for starter and the scampi for main. It was delicious. Prices are reasonable. The desserts are wonderful if you can manage one. The only downside is that it is a bit dark but then it is supposed... More
