Maybe we just struck it on a "off" day but the coffee was poor, the food average and the service disinterested. Went in for lunch around 12:30 and there were about 3 other tables seated. It was quite cool inside so we looked for a spot near a heater. Ordered coffee before lunch which wasn't worth finishing (first time EVER!)... More

Café 51 is a quaint and homely restaurant at 51 Main Street, Oxford, North Canterbury. It is an historic, or character house converted into a very enjoyable restaurant that is open 7 days, for dinner on Fri-Sat nights, but mainly morning, afternoon tea and lunch the other days. We found the lunch menu to have a reasonable variety of soup/entrees,... More

We went on a very quiet Friday night to this restaurant. We had heard very good things. The entrée menu we thought was rather limited. Not fancying smoked salmon pate or the seafood chowder, I opted for the soup, which I don't tend to like doing for an entrée due to it filling me up too much before the main... More

Had a lovely lunch with friends last weekend, well attended to by staff and excellent coffee to finish. Cafe 51 is in the delightful country town of Oxford, a must visit...

My wife and I have been making the trip out to Oxford for over three years now and have usually stopped for coffee at Café 51. It still has a homely, country-style atmosphere, and the coffee is just as good as it ever was. However, the staff member who served us must have been having an 'off' day, as her... More

Called in for an impromptu lunch while traveling south. The delightful period cottage was a welcome relief from the squally showers that were passing through the region. We had hearty soup followed by chilli lime spiced chicken. Servings were large even by country standards!! Service was friendly. Overall worth stopping if passing through Oxford.

I guess the fact that we had to sit outside on a cold day detracted from this experience. We probably should have reserved but it was a bit of a spur of the moment trip. People were asking to sit inside but despite there being what seemed like unoccupied tables no one was allowed. The service was slow but we... More

We enjoyed Sunday lunch here, we found the staff friendly although the first girl on the desk was a bit abrupt, but did smile later. The meals were very nice albeit a bit pricey. They forgot the neighbours coffee even after reminders.

Have always had good food at this restaurant. The service has always been great, even when they have been really busy on public holidays. Have always had a smile and laugh with all the staff, and been very accommodating when asked if we could have a slight alteration to the menu. They make good coffee too.

I've just joined TripAdvisor just to write this review. Arrived for lunch and walked out after the second curt and rude reply from their staff. There's a much better cafe a few doors along...
