Here at The Galley Topsham we want to impress you with 'the best of Devon on a plate'. We are passionate about serving you the freshest fish and seafood, simply and stylishly presented, together with exciting meat and vegetarian options sourced from local farms so we think we have something for everybody. We have a daily changing menu which means we only serve what is in season and locally available, so you can be sure that what you are eating is of the best quality. Our a la carte menu is available at lunch and dinner. At lunch we offer a special menu of two courses for £16. So whether it's a long lingering dinner, a light lunch or a business engagement we have something to suit you. We love wine and have worked hard to create a balanced wine list that includes top favourites along with some interesting options you may not be so familiar with. We are very happy to recommend a wine to go with any of our dishes so please do ask. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and friendly. We have no dress code and we warmly welcome families with children. Great food is nothing without great service however and we put a huge emphasis on matching the service to your needs. Nigel is on hand front of house to greet you with a friendly smile and make sure you relax and enjoy your meal. With our unique location on Topsham Quay and fabulous views over the River Exe you can soak up the atmosphere of this ancient sea port from the comfort of our two dining rooms.

Great food and fantastic service.

This was a second visit to this lovely restaurant. The starters and main courses were beautifully presented and most importantly delicious! I am so glad that I saved room for the pudding as that was a perfect end to a lovely meal. Service was friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. I... read more

Visited here at lunch time, on my own, without a reservation. Some hesitation about taking my reservation, but given a nice table. It turned out that the hesitation was due to a shortage in the kitchen. The owner mentioned to me afterwards that he would not reduce quality at the expense of quantity and so had limited how many guests... More

Dined here with my girlfriend on Valentine's night. The restaurant was lovely and cosy - beautifully decorated. We were warmly received upon arrival. We had a complementary salmon appetiser which was refreshing. All the drinks we had throughout the evening were of high quality and matched our food choices perfectly. We were offered lovely homemade olive or sundried tomato bread.... More

Went to the Galley for a 'Annivorcary' celebration - a party of 4. The restaurant is lovely, small (less than 30 covers I think) but beautifully decorated, and superbly lit - even though the tables are quite closely packed the lighting makes each feel intimate and private. The maitre de (Nigel) was friendly and helpful, and soon we were enjoying... More

Lovely little restaurant specialising in fish (but with alternatives available). We arrived at 7:30 when the restaurant was nearly empty, but by 8 it was busy enough to generate atmosphere and by 9 it was buzzing. Attentive and friendly service throughout. The starters (moules mariniere) were perfect, in a slightly thickened broth which lent the dish more gravitas. Elegantly served.... More

Went to the Galley today and had the set lunch. Salt and pepper squid to start - delicious. Roast cod with crushed new potatoes. Beautifully seasoned and cooked. Good value set lunch.

I had dinner tonight with my family at this fantastic restaurant. Where do I start ..., the owner is a lovely Guy, genuinely friendly with a great sense of humour and runs this place like clock work. I had the sea bass which was stunning, followed by white chocolate pana cotta, literally one of best deserts I have ever tasted.... More

What a gem! From the outside The Galley does not look much, in fact it appears quite downmarket, but for this birthday celebration lunch it was first class. Comfortable seating, attentive service (we did not have to ask for our coats to be taken and hung up), and outstanding food. The fish cakes, moules mariniere, Thai prawns, and scallops with... More

We had a wonderful evening in early December, the dessert of Bakewell tart was truly divine, we could not recommend more highly, this was our third visit and we love it!

My wife and I visited The Galley recently, for our wedding anniversary. The service was second to none, and greatly appreciated on the night. The food was very good, with a good choice available. We were invited to try a local white wine, which was a perfect match for our meal, and I have since located for future enjoyment! All... More
