Apparently Evan's like so many other businesses has decided to work the short term instead of staying in business for the long run. The wait staff was condescending, nosy and overly smoozey. They are looking for out of area suckers to overcharge. The waiter brought the wrong wine, stating the region instead of winery; then over charged for the bottle.... more

We ate at Evan's with our wedding party of 18 after the ceremony. I called a week before the wedding and booked the reservation directly with Evan himself and couldn't have asked for a more seamless experience. Cozy, yet formal restaurant. Everything was beyond my expectations!! Don't be fooled by "cafe" in the name...this is a five star experience. The... more

Evan’s lives up to the hype and its Tripadvisor rating. Based on the reviews and ratings I had high expectations for this restaurant. Atmosphere is acceptable, smallish dining room that is quaint, tastefully decorated with local art. When full, you are aware of the tables nearby. Upon seating we were given a complimentary starter of pate which was delicious and... more

The premier gourmet restaurant in the south lake tahoe area. Very high quality food. The chef came from Aqua in San Francisco and the food reflects his skill and knowledge. Our meal was simply superb. I ended up ordering three appetizers for my meal as they looked so inviting. They were: Braised DuPuy Lentil Soup with Basil Pesto and Preserved... more

Outstanding in every way. Service is unobtrusive but attentive. Food is divine and you could not ask for a better experience. Don't miss this if you are in the area. more

In September we two foodies traveled across Northern Calif from Yosemite to Tahoe to the North Coast to Sausalito to Big Sur and south, eating at every top-ranked TA restaurant. Evan's was clearly the best! Table spacing, decorations, owner on the site, ambience, wine choices, all xlnt. The spinach salad with blue cheese was delicious, but the Salmon filet with... more

We arrived at Evan's American Cafe just after a week spend feasting in the best Paris (the French one) had to offer. Evan's held its own. Not only on quality but also the breadth of the menu. The cooking was really excellent and each one of the staff went out of their way to make it a memorable evening. It... more

We rent a home in South Lake Tahoe every year with three couples and eat out twice on our vacation. It's hard to find a place that everyone will love. But we did last night at Evan's American Gourmet Cafe. Don't let the cafe on the end of their name fool you. It' was top notch food. We all had... more

Evan's staff was the most friendly & attentive group of people I have ever encountered. Each of them waited on us at one point or another, we never had to ask for anything, they offered it to us before we had the chance!! Chef Jimmy prepared an exceptional meal, we also had the pleasure of talking with him after dinner,... more
