There aren't German restaurants where we live so we looked forward enormously to dinner at this one. Things started well. This is an attractive place with that heavy duty Bavarian or Swiss, I guess, atmosphere we all love on a snowy night. Well, it wasn't a snowy night the August night we were there but we enjoyed the ambiance. We... More

Food was good and well presented, service was also good and we managed to get a table at very short notice even though the restaurant was full. I was looking for something tasty and more up market from the fodder available in our hotel and found it.

My wife and I have spent a lot of time in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. We went to this restaurant last night with another couple and, overall, we were all disappointed. We found the physical surroundings to be charming and, if not oozing "Swissness", there was definitely an overall Germanic "feel" with a fair helping of Swiss (e.g. cuckoo clocks... More

I have eaten here a few times, and I like this restaurant. It has an unusual theme and atmosphere. The food is good, and they have some unique menu items. I can recommend eating here if you are looking for something different and a little up-scale. But here is a word of caution. Once I ordered the lobster, which was... More

We have been to the Swiss Chalet several times and have been pleased with the service and food every time. This last time we brought along two friends who had never had German food and watched their surprised looks. They are somewhat picky eaters but were totally satisfied with their meals. Our servers were professional and knowledgeable and the atmosphere... More

I found this review on Trip Advisor. It is on the main road in South Lake Tahoe. Family owned for 50 years. Everything is made fresh. For a touch of the Swiss Alps, give it a try. It is clean, good portions. I seen young couples enjoying Fondue, couples having dinners and Seniors all enjoying their food. A good selection... More

Several times, I have taken fish I have caught out of Lake Tahoe to area restaurants. Last week, I took the fish to the Swiss Chalet on the recommendation of my fishing guide. There were two ladies in my group that normally do not order fish out at all. However, all four of us thought the Macinaw and the Kokanee... More

We had dinner at the Swiss Chalet last week. We enjoyed the decor: beer steins, cow bells, signs in German, etc., but I'm sorry to say that we found the food to be mediocre and overpriced. We don't mind paying a premium price for our dinner - but if we do, we expect to meal to live up to the... More

Amazing Sauerbraten and Cordon Bleu! The house salad dressing is spectacular! Delicious Bavarian mousse cake. A little taste of Switzerland in California!

I'm not sure what it was exactly, but Swiss Chalet didn't FEEL like Switzerland to me. Was it the dated decor? The attempt to create a chalet from a space which could just as easily house an Italian restaurant or an American steakhouse? Granted, I recall some completely uninviting, charmless restaurants in Switzerland. But I also remember some lovely rustic... More
