Open for lunches and Friday evenings for dinner, Black Barn Bistro is the perfect place to spend an hour or two absorbing the atmosphere of Wine Country. It is in the heart of the vineyard surrounded by vines and a table on the large generous veranda lets you look right out across the region. In warmer weather a courtyard covered by a canopy of grapes is also a perfect place to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine. The restaurant menu is light, fresh and delicious. There is an emphasis on freshly grown Hawkes Bay produce, the selection changes with the seasons. The bistro is available for private functions, evening and during the day, it is also the perfect venue for a very limited number of weddings, for bookings or enquiries please give us a call.

Amazing Friday night bistro

It was recommended that we eat here on Friday night as they have a 'Friday night Bistro'. I live in London and so I am spoiled for choice and I can say this would rank alongside any high end London establishment but at more than half the price. Also black barn produce some top quality wine so... read more

My first visit to Black Barn we not be my last, we booked for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. Service was very attentive and our water was topped up every time it was empty. The main meals are a gourmet size however the taste was amazing! Paired with an entree and desert you can't go wrong. Outside under... More

We have come back to New Zealand for a few months from the UK and wanted somewhere to take a distant relative for lunch. We couldn't have chosen better. Pleasant welcome and taken to a table overlooking the vineyard with The Bay as a back drop. Unhurried service. My tuna accompanied with a glass of BB Pinot Gris was amazing... More

We had a perfect lunch here. There are a number of creative vegetarian options and heaps of seafood on offer. House cured salmon was amazing, couldn't fault any of the dishes we had. The restaurant was very accommodating, allowing us to move our booking by an hour due to travel issues at the last minute. The restaurant setting is just... More

Sixteen family members came together to celebrate my mums 80th birthday recently. The food was excellent and the staff were fantastic with such a loud group, all of us catching up, moving seats etc didn't faze them and a great time was had by all.

From the other reviews I think we were a tad unlucky with our food.We could see this was a classy restaurant, wonderful room and views,a great welcome and attentive service. Sadly our food was underwhelming. The prawns main course had just 3 smallish prawns and a strange combination with what tasted like vanilla custard ? Worse was my wife's veggie... More

There is a reason that Black Barn is included in the book 1001 places to dine in the world. Beyond the food, the grounds are amazing. There is a decent gift shop, tasting opportunities at the cellar door, but above all else excellent dining. This was the second time we've dined there. The service was friendly and attentive, but the... More

You can dine under a grape arbor and view the beautifully cultivated vineyard. Setting is informal and Bistro style. The food is excellent. Menu items are matched with their wine suggestions if you want to try them. We loved it.

Lunch at Black Barn Bistro was just wonderful. We were seated in the outdoor area, under a covering of vines. The waiter was from France and was able to give us information about the wine, and menu. Can recommend the beef short rib, lamb short loin and fish of the day - snapper. We had two amazing desserts hazlenut dacquoise... More
