The room is quiet yet friendly (maybe it was unusual, but several tables chatted back and forth when we were there and one was a native quebecois couple talking to four visitors from California)--we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere... L'initiale was the first restaurant we tried on our trip to Quebec City. In retrospect, it would have been better if it were the last because this establishment spoiled us. We gauged the rest of our restaurant outings using L'Initiale as the benchmark and consequently were disappointed in others' offerings. From start to finish, the service was impeccable. The hostess... More

Not many restaurants are better than this. Similar style to Per Se in New York but less costly. Do the tasting menu with wine pairings. It's expensive but worth every morsel. Service and attention to detail is outstanding. One sitting so you are never rushed and care is given throughout! Well worth it for a special evening! Thank you Rolande!

Delicious food. French style, everything is perfect. You should try the scallops. I don't like much seafood but these scallops were amazing!!! I really recommend this place. The deer is spectacular!!! Don't miss the desserts.

We ate at Restaurant Initiale the last nite of our stay in Quebec. A hop and skip away from our hotel, Auberge St. Antoine, we had read all the reviews and were looking forward to something fabulous. Being the "foodies" that we consider ourselves to be, having eaten in many of the 4 and 5 star restaurants in NYC, including... More

Excellent fine dining. Artistic, and surprising flavors in every bite. Exceptional service. 3 hour tasting menu did not disappoint. We enjoyed the experience, however, it was extremely expensive. Dinner for 2 with 2 bottles of wine $600CDN

Restaurant Initiale is a dining experience and was my favorite meal while in Quebec City. Expect to spend 2- 2 1/2 hours at the restaurant. Our Five Course meal was not cheap but each course was truly gourmet. The pairings of some of the ingredients were surprising, yet delicious. Each dish was artistically presented and the service was very professional.... More

The food was remarkable. We had the 7+ course tasting menu, I say 7+ because there were so many "extras" through the meal. The variety of tastes and foods was exceptional as was the service. We've eaten at Per Se, 11 Madison, The French Laundry, Gary Danko and many fine restaurants in the US. This could compete and even beat... More

For our vacation we were looking for a fine dining restaurant is located in the heart of Quebec's historic area and Restaurant Initiale fit the bill perfectly! We had read previous reviews and we not disappointed. It was fabulous! We had one of our most wonderful meals ever. The décor is classic, the seating intimate and encompassing. The staff made use...
