We just chose this bistro after checking several menus in the area and seeing the place full of happy locals with amply served plates. Nice cozy old building that gave one the sense of history. We both ate the French onion soup which came dusted with finely chopped herbs With a beer this could easily be a meal. The rabbit... More

The mouth-watering menu posted at the entrance of this classic French bistro just begs you to step in, and it's like entering another world - a world of enchantment and intimate dining. Mind you, the small patio on the sidewalk has its own attractions; it is great for people-watching on a warm summer day. Yet our favorite season to come... More

Visited here due to reviews on trip advisor. The food was nice, but not amazing. The French onion soup had a distinct lack of onions. The lamb confit was very salty. The cassoulet was well received but I think my husband makes a better one. Not our best meal in Quebec - but the restaurant is quaint.

This place was recommended by a older shop keeper where I was trying to find a rain hat and by way of turn here and walk here then cross over here and take stairs to here we found Cafe St-Malo. The place was full of Quebec charm and country art and two lovely ladies who will make you feel like... More

After seeking, but not finding, true French cuisine in Vieux Montreal, we were delighted to find Café St-Malo in Lower Town, QC. We dined there twice during our four days in QC, and were more-than-pleased with our meals both nights. We found nothing to disliked, but we LOVED the sweetbreads. Moderately priced, as is the wine list.

Get reservations! We dined on a Monday evening in mid-September and watched many turned away for lack of reservations. Small, excellent restaurant. Intimate, warm, eclectic decor. We were greeted and seated by the owner upon arrival. Excellent food, service, atmosphere. Everything about this restaurant was excellent. We made reservations for Tuesday evening - why try something else when you've found perfection?

Our waiter was a little forgetful. Prices compared to everything in old Quebec was on the average side. I had ordered the duck and honestly, it wasn't that great. But the street it is on was really nice. We at on the patio and it was nice just watching the people walk by. Will proababaly not be going again because... More

Were in Quebec four nights and this was easily the best. Classic French fare, very friendly wait staff, nice surroundings, decent prices. Cassoulet and duck confit were great. Did not feel touristy --- lots of French being spoken. Place was definitely busy on a Friday night and was turning away people. Call ahead for reservations.

This is an unassuming bistro from the outside, but the food and wine was delicious. We ate here twice and would recommend the Canadian wine. Steak and ravioli were extremely good choices. People eating here were being sent by their hotels, we found it by accident. A great find.

My friend and I had worked up quite an appetite meandering around Quebec City and had decided to check out the next restaurant we saw. Coincidentally, that happened to be Cafe St-Malo, which our hotel hostess had recommended to us. We figured a local would know what she was talking about. She did. I'll be returning here on my next... More
