Lots of fun!

One of the few places that serves breakfast 24/7 this great little spot has a nice outdoor seating area and a vast menu. There's usually a short wait for a table, but it's worth it!

without a doubt they had the best waffles I have ever had. That is all you need to know about this place.

First and last time we come to this restaurant. Very disappointed about the service we got from a young girl. We got the worst service we could imagine. We had to ask for drinks missing 4 times, her attitude was arrogant, she threw the dishes when bringing the food to the table. We had to beg her to give us... More

I'm not sure why this cafe is listed as Cafe Universel--I saw this name nowhere in the cafe itself, nor on the marquee outside. There it is called Bistro Tot ou Tard. Thus, after a 15 minute walk through slushy winter streets, I was at first a little unnerved, and almost didn't go in. It's a very unprepossessing place from... More

This is a local neighborhood eatery that punches above its weight. The atmosphere is casual chic and the staff is always very nice. You can choose lower priced menu items and they are still great. I would recommend the "Buger Universel" with onion rings. The best rings in town! I've heard a lot about their breakfast and everyone says it's... More

We took our kids here and the crepe and waffles they still talk about. I enjoyed the poached egg/salmon over bagel. Nice location and ambiance.

Great diner for breakfast or lunch in an area of the city that is otherwise uninspired for restaurants (mostly tourist restos, chains and mall food courts). This place does a wide range of diner/bistro fare, lots of great options. Nothing I have had is extraordinary but its a world better than the options in this area of the city and... More

My friends and I were excited to try this new place for breakfast as the reviews on the food were great. When we arrived we were given the choice of the patio or the resto. Its almost winter so the patio is all closed off now and does not have windows or circulation. We were not informed that people could... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
