Again after 8 years.. Still best vegetarian place in town

My first date with my wife was 8 years ago @ Chu chai! I might be sentimental about this place, but I think is still my favorite place in Montreal! Ambience is cool, people are awesome, cocktail are great and the food is just delicious!! What more can I say....

really excellent food--the fried seaweed appetizer is TO DIE FOR! creative, trendy dishes made with all vegan ingredients, but called by their animal names (chicken satay, shrimp pad thai, etc), could be a little confusing looking at the menu. Everything we had was delicious. Expect pretentious 20-somethings that don't know the difference between vegan & gluten-free to be sitting all around... More

I was visiting Montreal from Toronto and absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious and our server Jen was so delightful! I definitely recommend the fried shrimp and anything coconut.

We went to ChuChai with family on a recent trip to Montreal over the Fourth of July holidays in 2014. The food the service the drinks all were spectacular. The best part about eating here is knowing that everything you're going to eat is purely vegetarian in fact vegan and that alone opens up a world of possibilities for a... More

We ate Vegetarian Duck at Chu Chai Thai that just amazed my discriminating vegetarian wife and me. It looked like a duck, it smelled like a duck, it tasted like duck, but it was vegetarian. The menu offered a large selection of vegetarian food that I've never seen elsewhere. All of our dishes were excellent and reasonably priced. The waiters... More

During a family vacation to Montreal, a local suggested that we try Chu Chai. When he first said that it was a vegetarian Thai restaurant, our teen rolled his eyes. But then he went on to say that the flavors and texture of the food was remarkable, and that it is his own kids' favorite restaurant. So we tried it.... More

My wife has tried this restaurant about 12 yrs ago and she wanted to revisit this place. We got a nice roadside patio seat and enjoyed a quiet veg light lunch. A pad makire ( aubergine with Asian light sauce) was delicious with brown rice. But the curry puff was more like samosa. The service was great and was very... More

We enjoyed sitting on the terrasse on this lovely sunny day, and enjoyed the food and service even more! The cocktail I had (basil, lemongrass, vodka, lime juice and something else) was superb (although pricey) and a great opener for our spicy appetizers. Our mains of pad thai and mock duck with black pepper -our fave!- did not disappoint. The... More

We loved the menu options at this amazing vegan restaurant. Crispy duck was delicious as was the 5 flavour appetizer. Friendly stuff and hip decor made this place perfect. Highly recommended.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
