We decided to check out Chu Chai on our recent vacation to Montreal. I can already say I can't wait to return next time we are in MTL!! The service was excellent and staff were great to make some recommendations to us. We ordered the dumplings in peanut sauce as an appetizer - the waiter told us that they have... More

This place is quiet popular now. It's known for their "fake meat" meals.. They have a menu that contain beef, chicken, fish, shrimps etc but the meat is made with seitan/soy and in some cases vegetables. Even though it's vegetarian, they use a lot of wheat/gluten and soy, but if it's an ingredient you can't have, there are some gluten... More

Couldn't see myself enjoying this kind of experimental cuisine, but the food was delightful. Very reminiscent of Thai and Vietnamese dishes... and at times I actually forgot there was no seafood or meat in any of our Asian selections... . We ordered nine dishes: Miam Kram, Kai Satay, Khiao Wan Koung, Kang Daeng Ped, Phra Ram Tao-Hu, Royal Pad Thai... More

We really enjoyed eating here! The food was really interesting, and exciting - especially if you like mock meat! We started off with two delicious starters, of mock 'chicken' skewers and tofu pocket that were filled with ingredients which made them look like dainty cucumber sandwiches! We felt the tofu was definitely one not to miss! The mains were great... More

Even though we last visited Chu Chai about 7 years ago, the food and service are still excellent. I am an omnivore but felt completely satisfied with our meal. Highlights include: steamed dumplings in peanut sauce, pad Thai, cucumber salad. Highly recommended for everyone!

We decided to go to this restaurant anmd give it a try as a graduation gift to my daughter who is a young vegan, the only one in the family actually. Have you ever been to a restaurant that only serves vegetarian food. How about a vegetarian restaurant that serves duck, chicken, and other meat products. Well at Chu Chai,... More

The menu is interesting, but the price expensive and the flavors were a little too sweet for my taste. The fake shrimp was strange. The texture is similar of all fake meats.

Very good cook for creating meat alternatives, a vegi place were you can eat duck, beef, shrimps with no animal tissue in them and you will be fooled. We shared 4 entrees (tapas style) and 2 main course plate my wife and I and we're satisfied. Service was friendly, quite efficient, helpful with the menu. If you are intolerant to... More

I LOVE this place! Great staff and excellent food. It's one of those places that works for even the most hardcore meat eater. The food is elegant, fantastic and so incredibly well spiced and seasoned! See you next year Chu Chai!!!!! Can't wait

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
