Tasty vegan thai - good variety of mock meats

Chuchai's definitely one of my favourite places since turning vegetarian. I don't ever miss the meat when I go, they have a wide variety of mock meats (chicken, beef, fish!, shrimps) as well as vegetable and tofu dishes. Their seasonings are spot on, all the dishes I've tried have so much flavor to... read more

If you are a hungry tourist, skip it. The prices are high and they have no Wi-Fi. But if you are looking for a nice place with an atmosphere to share a meal with someone, then this is the place to go. The food is great.

This place is great. The seating is a bit close to one another. If you are not fluent in French, as for the English menu. The ambience and total experience was great; however, the table near us had what I would refer to as terrible diners who tried to shame us for asking for an English menu. I know enough... More

I visit this restaurant almost every time I'm in Montreal. Everything is vegan and all the mock meats are so authentic that I'd warn anyone with an aversion to the real thing to be careful! There's a great variety of dishes, some spicy, some mild. Some of the best Thai food you'll find in the city and certainly the nicest... More

Dishes at Chu Chai taste great and are served tastefully. Service is good, prices are ok. Advise is to ignore the names and references to animals in the dishes--which are, for a vegetarian restaurant--kind of beside the point anyways. This is to say, the duck tastes delicious, but does not necessarily taste like duck--and I for one am grateful it... More

I convinced my co-workers to go to a vegetarian restaurant, and they went, somewhat reluctantly. The food here was very tasty. I will definitely go here again.

Thai food made with vegetarian ingredients fantastic flavors of Thailand. The 'meats' made of mushrooms, tofu, and bean base. The tasting menu at $50 is a fantastic deal. There was duck curry and beef course precede by 4 different hors d'oeuvres and 4 tastes of desserts, along with a Chi Chai created mixed drink.

I don't eat a lot of soy meats (I'm not vegetarian) but on recommendation from two different friends (one vegan, one not) I went to this restaurant after riding from NYC to MTL. I was blown away by their food. The portions are on the smaller side, but nothing offensive. I loved everything we order, including traditional Thai dishes and... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
