Just a real find recommended a Quebecois.

Waitress said the location had been operating for over 60 years. I am still not sure what the "smoked meat" sampler was; kind of like really lean pastrami on rye w/fries and coleslaw. It was just fabulous, melt in your mouth good. You will not find this place without doing a good map recon... read more

Our server was extremely friendly and polite and the restaurant has a nice old diner feel to it. The food though, was a bit greasy. It tasted pretty good however. I'm not condemning the place by any means. Try it for yourself and be your own judge.

This would be be about what I would think would hit the spot after a night on the town. Oily yet crispy fries, a greasy medium smoked meat sandwich. Very tender. I'd be thinking average food, as others have been better. Price can't be beat though - 13$ for supper- fries, a vinegar-based coleslaw, and the smoked meat sandwich included.

This is definitely a contender to the the famous Schwartz on St.Laurent boulevard. Le Roi is located north of Montreal and the inconvenient of this area is finding a parking spot on St.Hubert. I suggest going a couple of streets east or west of that area. The place is outdated and clean like in the 70's style but it's worth... More

I don't think I've ever tasted something quite so delicious as the smoked meat sandwich! I've never had anything like it to compare it too. The meat was so tender and flavorful. Yum! Great atmosphere too and a lovely waitress that was patient with my bad French!

For me the name of the restaurant said it all. The smoke meat there taste like Schwart'z but you have some place to eat.

All I can say it's that it's convenient. It's open very late, it delivers, it's cheap and the smoked meat is good, but do not expect the Swartz's taste The decor is old-fashioned, like you would expect in a deli, the service is prompt and cordial, there is also a quieter dining room on the second level that is sporadically... If you want to experience an authentic, delicious smoked meat, this is the place to go. It has been around for decades & still serves the best smoked meat, in my opinion, in the City. We don't live in Montreal anymore but my husband & I visit 3 or 4 times a year. Our go to for smoked meat or... More

No line-up to get in (in contrast to Schwartz's), a full menu of various food in addition to their signature smoked meat, paired with low prices makes Le Roi the place to eat when in Montreal. We like it better than the over-hyped Schwartz's Deli. We go to Montreal every September for 5 days and always on the agenda is... More

Le Roi is my place to order a good, classic american-style pizza for delivery on a hockey night. The crust is both crunchy and tender, not too thick; the sauce is not too sweet and the toppings are generous. The smoked meat is excellent and so are the fries. But if you have the chance, go take a look at... More

Staying in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie

Neighborhood Profile
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie has one of Canada's most prominent Italian communities, with Little Italy concentrated along the convivial bends of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard. Known for its fantastic bars and authentic Italian fare, the domain includes the Jean-Talon Market, the largest public market in North America. Open year-round, sunny months see fruit and vegetable stalls set up outside the main chalet, while blustery weather draws crowds indoors to meat and cheese sellers, spices and truffles stalls, and for regional delicacies such as rare Charlevoix lamb. While the market dictates what's fresh for local restaurateurs, visitors can please more than their palates, taking in the Renaissance architecture and frescos of Madonna della Difesa, the picturesque Rue Saint-Rominique with its cheerful homes and splendid gardens, or the ornamented thoroughfare of Plaza Saint-Hubert.
