Went back for the memories...

As a youth I spent many late nights here. I went back during a recent stopover and was not disapointed with the memories but the food was not great. First, I want to say that the service was exceptional and very friendly. The waitress was clearly experienced and was great at anticipating what my... read more

I live in Montreal and never choose this restaurant as a place for dining out...there are too many other options in Montreal.

Everything about this restaurant was good. We were seated quickly and given menus right away. Our server spoke French so another server helped her understand that I couldn't eat dairy. I checked that the meat sauce had no cheese and then enjoyed a delicious pasta. The salad was crisp and cold with a very nice dressing. There was not a... More

Food is great, service fast and friendly. Both in English or French. I have been going there since 1980 never a bad experience.

Part of Montreal's history. Original decor. Good old fashion Montreal pizza served with old style Coke bottles. Good service. Average price. Close enough to walk to from hotel.

Da Giovanni is an institution, in my opinion, when it comes to Smoked Meat Spaghetti. It's super casual, Italian, served up 50's Family Cafe style! The only plating I focus on here is the steamy mound of pasta, topped with delicious smoked meat sauce perfectly dusted with fresh Parmesan! It's quick, it's piping hot, and it's tasty. Perfect for a... More

Da Giovanni has been around for a long time, at one point, with 3 restaurants, but is now back to one, which is its original location opposite the bus terminal on Berri St. Menu has become very limited: pasta (spaghetti) and pizza only. I had the Pizza-Cesar which was a small pizza (maybe 6") and a caesar salad, my friend... More

We decided to stop by here since it was right next to our hotel. We both loved the Pizza Getti. The pizza was really good. We wanted to go another night to a different pizza place we liked in the past but found the price of the restaurant went up substantially in price so returned to Da Giovanni. We mentioned... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
