IA Montreal tradition for "white man's" italian food

Nothing fancy, just good basic food at a reasonable price. The owners and staff have probably been there since the beginning and nothing has changed much in 40 years. Take note that most of the sauces taste the same... not a bad thing but don't expect the lasagna to taste substantially difference... read more

We decided to stop by here since it was right next to our hotel. We both loved the Pizza Getti. The pizza was really good. We wanted to go another night to a different pizza place we liked in the past but found the price of the restaurant went up substantially in price so returned to Da Giovanni. We mentioned... More

Loved this little spot... owner was so friendly to us. Pizza is delicious, but their coconut cream pie is the best! Located directly across from Hotel Gouveneur Depuis Place, so highly recommend as a place to eat.

Oh, I was hungry and didn't want to spend my cash so went into this restaurant and had a good plate of spaghetti with home made meat sauce and garlic bread.

Hotel suggested this when we said that wqe wanted something close by and ideally french of at least french canadian... It was described as an Italian Restaurant but thats not the right description, at least for a European, its better desribed as a Spaghetti House.....very good value for straightforward food.....the special was beef bourgignon which came with excellent spaghetti and... You should try the mix between pizza and spaghetti served at the same plate. The service is good as well.

We arrived late in Montreal. This Italian resto was closeby and served us with some good food. We had pizza and spaghetti carbonara. Was honest good food at good price/quality ratio. The chianti wine was cold but when at room temperature good average. Recommended place.

My family went there for a last minute dinner on a very busy downtown evening. They were able to accommodate 11 of us without a very long wait. Service was ok but we did not expect more... The spaghetti with meat sauce was good! My kids enjoyed the pizza.. One of our friends had penne with rose. I must say... More

Spaghetti Carbonara, veal Parmigiana, mille feuille, choco loco, coffee and an average bottle of Chianti. $86 including tax and a tip. This is more family style than high end Italian food. Family owned, lots of local eat there so busy.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
