Fabulous food in an upscale Bistro

We were seated on the patio which was quieter than inside and had a most wonderful meal with an excellent server. We both had the salmon tartar which was over the top delicious. I had sweetbreads and my husband had rack of lamb. We shared a bottle of Marsannay. We were too full for dessert but... read more

Here for a treat as a family bday dinner. I recommend reservations. It gets busy at 7:30pm on a Thursday night. The interior is very quaint and reminiscent of a Paris bistro, but with more elbow space. We started with crab cake and smoked salmon appetizer. The crab was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside with sweet... More

Had dinner here as a local had suggested it. Has a very 'bistro' atmosphere. There appears to be a nice outdoor patio, although we ate inside. As a special starter, they offered grilled octopus, and as it is one of my favourites, I tried it. Beautifully grilled and tender, with Israeli couscous and olives. Wonderful! As a main, I had... Classic French Bistro with a bit of Canadian Flair via their signature Salmon Tartare, we preferred the Classique over the Truffle Oil version and Salmon Pot au Feu. Traditional dishes with very minor tweaks with the sides or preparation wins out over innovation except for the creative desserts. The Outdoor Seating is available with a popular limited Late Night Dining... More

French food with a bit of a twist. Very popular with locals and a little bit away from the traditional touristy restaurants. Food is consistently very good, we've been back every time we visit Montreal.

Went here as a part of a large group. All the food was great and wouldn't have been out of place in any restaurant in France I have visited. The restaurant also had a good atmosphere. The only complaints I have are we were that we booked long in advance but still were left standing waiting for a table for... More

Since we haven't been to France guessed this was the place we were told will provide the bistro feeling with excellent food, and boy was it ever. The place is not pretentious, the service excellent, food good. The tables are little close for my liking but it didn't stop me from enjoying the total atmosphere. There were four of us... More

This is a classic French Bistro which you could find in Paris or any major French City. Lunch was delightful with great service and outstanding food. The steak Tartare was faultless and the French Fries typically "French". Salads were not overly dressed. My wife had the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked-pink as it should be. Wine selection is... More

I only wish this place was in my town. This restaurant is a nice, laid back restaurant set in what looks to be a high end shopping area. The atmosphere is casual, the service is pleasant and attentive but can be stretched when they get packed. We ordered simple salads, which were dressed perfectly. The main course of steak w/frites... Our favorite meal among many great meals in Montreal. For mains we had the scallops and rack of lamb respectively and both were incredible. Open on Sunday nights too, which is a plus for non-locals.

Staying in Outremont

Neighborhood Profile
Outremont
Outremont, a quaint residential district just north of Downtown, is a peaceful, low-key setting known for its mod cafes and bistros, and some of the best walking territory Montreal has to offer. Visitors can explore the flowering parks and manor estates of Maplewood Street, then window-shop the popular bakeries and coffeehouses on main arteries of Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine and Rue Van Horne. The modern granola feel is complemented by contemporary art exhibitions, rotating theater productions, and a welcoming public library. Also a nexus for the city's Hasidic Jewish culture, Outremont's diversity resounds in its cuisine and in its architecture. Visit the colorful neighborhood to take advantage of boutique shopping on Avenue Laurier, or to test the artisanal flavors of Avenue Bernard, braving a salmon burger on a squid-ink bun or accommodating your sweet tooth with a provincial chômeur pudding. A visit to Outremont is a relaxing day.
