Great Montreal Bagel

This was my first trip to Montreal. For many years I'd heard stories of the legendary Montreal Bagels from Fairmount Bagel. Fairmount was great! The hand shaped, cooked in a wood burning over Fairmount bagels are spectacular. While I usually go for an everything bagel, I highly recommend the most popular sesame.

Busy little spot away by the mountain - you can buy bags of these bagels (mostly sesame) in local grocery stores but nothing beats visiting the store and picking out your favorites - from chocolate chip, blueberry, pumpernickel, onion, poppy seed, everything, etc. Delicious classic Montreal style bagels!

Walk in, grab an onion bagel (or whatever you fancy, they have many varieties), walk around the Mile End. Congrats, you're practically a local.

We were very unimpressed by this hard bagel with little flavor. It was hard to believe that at 2 pm on a Saturday there was a little line to get into this place.

Never had Montreal-style bagels until we hit Fairmount and now I don't really want anything but Montreal-style bagels. They were light, fresh and not-chewy like NY-style bagels. Perfect for a quick snack while out visiting the sites in Mile End.

They bake fresh bagels all day, the bagel is good, but nothing special. I like my bagel toasted with lightly spread cream cheese. This place does NOT toast the bagel (my request was denied) and my bagel was not even warm.

You have to really like your bagels to want to find this out-of-the-way place (as we did, on foot) and they did a pretty good job of winning me over to the cause - I'm not from a part of the world with a thriving bagel scene. But these ones were very good.

My friends and I came at around 10pm and ordered 6 bagels. The problem was that they only gave 5 bagels. Unfortuantely we only noticed after we left and arrived home. We called them to complain, but instead of trying to solve this issue they hung up on us. They don't seem to care about their customers. So we paid... More

I like the Montreal bagels and figured I needed to try one of either Fairmount or St. Viateur. Since there is no consensus as to which is better, we opted for Fairmount after walking by the day before and catching a glimpse of the bagel factory. I thought it was one of the best bagels I ever had, but it's... More

Wow! Great, fast, friendly service. Fresh bagels! They sell cream cheese etc. right there as well. Fast moving lines...worth the short wait!,

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
