It is worth standing in the queue at Fairmont Bagels the original home to the Montreal bagel. The salmon and cream cheese on the onion bagel was delicious.

This is a fun side trip while in Montreal. For a true experience to see where the bagels are made, go to this bakery tucked away in a Montreal neighborhood. Small place crammed with an assortment of bagels, from orginal, sesame seed, poppy seed, onion, all dressed (everything), cinnamon raisin, you name it, they have it. You can watch them... More

The bagels are great but if you are on a salt-free diet, don't touch them. The poppy seeds are sprinkled on one side basically, when others dip both sides for both poppy and sesame seeds. Look to R.E.A.L. Bagel on Decarie for salt-free ones.

I do it every time. Sunday morning before the drive back to Toronto, I'm dumb enough to stop by and pick up a couple of dozen. Then I have to spend six hours in the car with that freshly baked smell wafting through the car. I suppose it's a price I'm willing to pay. The only thing I'm a bit... More

Still the best for bagels in Montreal. Made fresh, lots of variety to choose from. Bring cash....they do not accept debt or credit. Everything bagel is to die for.

Gotta love a place that just specializes in one thing and does it so well. My kids like blueberry and chocolate, which they offered. Doesn't even need butter. Delicious!

My wife comes from Montreal and when we visited a few years ago, a return to FMB was on her to-do-list. It may seem odd to eulogise about a bagel you then eat outside on a bench, but the bagels are truly excellent and, second time around, they remain so. This is often the acid test for me, does a... Have had bagels forever but none like this. Had sesame bagels with cream cheese and lox (smoked salmon) - oh my god good!! Strong on the sesame flavor - which was such a change. To think of it all the bagels we tried here were strong on the flavors mentioned - like the onion ones we tried were really strongly... More

I loved being able to stop in at 10 at night to load up with a dozen bagels for breakfast/lunch the next day. Wide variety of flavors and butter, cream cheese also available for purchase. Plastic knives thoughtfully provided for those on the go. Sesame, Garlic and Everthing were our favorites. Some still warm from the oven when we purchased...yum... More

Bagels so amazing and fresh you can eat them without anything else! I highly recommend going here and walking around the mile-end area of Montreal-cool area to explore and then go back & get another bagel!

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
