My favourite sushi restaurant in Montreal

Has your love affair with sushi grown a bit stale over the years? Put the spark right back in that relationship with the Rainbow Sashimi creation at Zenya. It’s a tricolour flag of red tuna, king salmon (orange) and striped bass (white), in a marinade of light soy sauce, ponzu and truffle oil, with... read more

This was not my first visit to that restaurant. Prior to a pleasant evening at the theater a friend and I had a wonderful dining experience at 'Zenya Sushi' restaurant. We chose from the specialty menu and totally enjoyed every bite. Our waiter was very friendly and explained the different choices very well. The atmosphere is very pleasant and 'zen'.... More

Walking down St. Catherines, looking for a sushi restaurant, we see an awning on a non-descript building. Upon entering the lower floor, there is only a doorman sitting at a desk at the back of the room. No other signs or anything. When asked, he tells us to go to the 2nd floor. Once we get out of the elevator,... More

Located on St-Catherine St. Ouest on the second floor. Don't blink or you will miss. The food is good - the motown and snow white are unique. The atmosphere is great and they offer good sake (though a little on the expensive side). Have been at the restaurant on two occasions and it was always busy (Monday) which is a... More

When I was locating a good Japanese restaurant in Montreal, it appears that Zenya was the number 1 recommendation. Hence, we came here on our first night in town. We made a reservation but it was not necessary as there were only 2-3 tables occupied when we got there at 6:30 p.m. on a week night. When we got to... More

Went to Zenya with my husband during our recent trip to Quebec. We were looking for a good sushi place and I stambled upon Zenya on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a try. What should I tell you - I was not dissapointed! The restaurant is located in mid town, on a busy St. Catharine street, among many shops... More

Somewaht hidden up two flights of stairs but the climb (there is a lift) was well worth it. I ate the nigiri maki sushi combo which came with a small salad and miso soup followed by mixed prawn and vegetable tempura. Washed down with some 'draft' ice cold sake ($17 for 300mls). Excellent service and very pleasant ambience. Busy not... More

Visited wonderful Montreal from the UK in May 2014 for our anniversary and am catching up on my reviews! I read about Zenya on the Fairmont hotel web site whilst researching my trip and having been to Japan I am a huge fan of Japanese food. We first went to Zenya on our night of arrival from the UK. Difficult to find as it is located on an upper floor and the entry way to the building is not inviting but this place is definitely worth the trip. Wonderful selection of sushi. I had the sea bass marinated in Saki. Presentation was great, good service and tasty dishes.

You can't actually see this place from the outside. You have to know or get recruited by their sidewalk geisha, but it isn't a trap. I own a food tour company in Montreal and I vouch for their quality!
