My fiancé and I came here on our trip to Montreal and it was wonderful. We had the fundido to start and it was so good, the flavours were really great. The guac was the best I've had. I had the pollo de la diabla and it was very spicy, which I love, and again full of flavour. If I... More

The room was empty when we arrived...8.50 for a small very ordinary margarita, not right. Starter plate to share, 18 cad for 4, that was good and well priced. Then main courses, aro. 22 cad each. The four of them were very disappointing, seemed like each plate was pre cooked, frozen and too strongly re-heat. Not acceptable for this amount... More

Sometimes I would rate a restaurant as average because the food of not very flavorful or tasty. Casa de Mateo would be the first restaurant that I have to give a horrible rating because of ROTTEN and un-flavorful food. After reading positive reviews I was very eager to try out this restaurant so I went there with a friend on... More

I came here twice here for dinner during our stay and the food was fabulous, they make the guacamole at your table so it is very fresh. You can also order large pitchers of drinks to share with large parties. One night they had three amigos going to each table singing nice touch. Great staff

At first the menu seemed quite limited and the service was a little slow to start. We were not optimistic until the food and drinks arrived. The food was REALLY good, and I mean all of it, and they had the best mango margarita I've ever had. I lived in Texas for many years and missed having good Mexican food,... More

Superb Mexican fare with some of the best mole. From the salsa they bring with chips to the flavorful appetizers and main dishes, everything here was as good as it gets. The décor also was suitably evocative. Highly recommend it.

Being regional residents we have been to Casa de Mateo several times over the past 20 years, last visit 6-7 years ago. Food is good, drinks are good, prices are reasonable. Guacamole prepared in front of you to order. But service was less than ok, slow on a Saturday night when the place was busy, but not crazy; the excuse... More

Excellent Mexican food in Old Montreal. Imagine that. Fairly upscale for Mexican. We started with the guacamole, which was made at our table with a flourish. All the food was just excellent. My standard measure is the Chili Relleno, and it did not disappoint. The chili had a reasonable amount of heat. We were very pleased with our visit.

I`ve been to Casa de Mateo twice with my boyfriend, Once for our anniversary and once on Valentine`s Day. Both times we enjoyed excellent food, generous portions, friendly staff, great music, and AMAZING margaritas. I'm in no way exaggerating when I say their margaritas are so delicious, they're worth the trip alone. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead... More

First I have to tell you that I live in San Antonio, TX where Mexican food was invented. So I tried to have reasonable expectations, of Mexican food from a French perspective, and a long way from San Antonio. The food was tasty. I had broccoli soup which had cilantro in it. It was tasty, almost too much cilantro. I... More
