Very good food from Oaxaca Mexico. I have never had this kind of Mexican food and it immediately becomes obvious that it is not what we are used to. I had their version of eggplant parma, very tasty...the cheese quesadilla, very good so was the dish made with cactus. They had several dishes made with cactus that tasted like a... More

Best mojito I've ever had. I had the chicken enchiladas served with rice and beans and it was very good. A little pricy for the portion size but I left full. I'm not a huge fan of refried beans but these ones were amazing.Great atmosphere with friendly fast service.

Casa de Mateo is an ordinary Mexican restaurant in Old Montreal. The service is ok. The food standard. The prices not expensive. They have a terrazzo on a street with practically no traffic.

I love this Mexican Restaurant!! The ambiance is fun and entertaining. The Mariachi band adds to the authenticity and charm of the restaurant, along with the handmade tortillas. I would eat there every day if possible.

Although I live in the United States, I am from Mexico. I usually eat Mexican food in foreign countries to see how they might adapt it in foreign markets. I also must say that I am not a Mexican food snob. If it tastes good, I allow a wide range of flexibility on what counts as “authentic.” Given this background,... More

We went there more than 15 years ago, and really enjoyed it... and decided to go again last night for a dinner with the family, and it was as enjoyable as last time. Prices are reasonable, service was extraordinary, and the food was incredible. On the week-ends there's a Mariachi band that play, which adds to the atmosphere. Will have... More

We were 8 girlsfriends who were looking for a place to eat just before an event at the Centaur Theatre. We made reservations before hand. When we got there, they had made a mistake and organized seating for 6 only. They fixed it for us. There were a lot of groups of women who had the same idea who were... More

My husband and arrived at the restaurant to meet with friends. We were hoping to get a drink while waiting. 1. Our reservations were not found. 2. We were ignored for 20 minutes. When I managed to flag down a woman who seemed to act as the maitre'd, she made it clear that we were bothering her. 3. When the... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
