Change in ownership, change in quality & service

Bishoku used to be my favourite sushi restaurant in Montreal (see my previous review). Last summer they changed ownership and offered a deal on a groupon site to promote the change (now Chop Brasserie). The food was fine, but not as good as it once was; some of the menu items we loved were... read more

I went to this place with my GF last week. we had sushi and and the beef a teriyaki. Everything is prepared as soon as you order. We had great service and the sushi was very fresh and well prepared. Still one of the best places in montreal to have sushi.

This place used to be one of the best sushi places in town. Now it changed name and the food is not what it used to be. It seems that there is only one chef now (at the time of dinner around 7pm). When we arrived there, there was another table of three already sitting there. Both them and us... More

Fan of sushi, this one is too simply, not in my top. Isn't me or spicy on a Japanese restaurant doesn't mean spicy.

visited Bishoku very ofen, but yesterday when I passed by for lunch, I was so surprised because everything were changed, the restaurant now under a new name Chop, has been nice renovated , the menu now is simple but perfect . I ordered sushi and tried some new dishes like the steam buns, which has a funny name Asian pac-man,... More

Good menu choice, poor execution. This place used to be a gem in Montreal and I have been going there several times a year, never had one single complaint. Looks like after the change of ownership, they've kept the same menu but lost all their expertise. There's no more attention to detail. The main kitchen dishes were simply not as... More

It seems that the owner has changed again? I doubt. The quality drops to below average, but meanwhile, its price keeps high. Salmon and tuna were not fresh, Too much rice on Sushi. For this quality, I recommend all-you-can-eat Sushi resto as they provide better quality. Disappointing.

As soon as we got in the chef and the lady in charge made sure we were welcome and taken care of.The service was a liitle too fast for our liking but we were hungry and probably they read that in the way we enjoyed our appetizers Sushis don't need to be fancy to be excellent and ours were great.... Actual, best Sushi I've ever had, and I'm a huge sushi lover and have eaten at many sushi restaurants. The only place I haven't had the opportunity to try is in Japan. Everything here is super fresh and they are known for their original and mouth watering sushi pizza (no deep fried rice patty here!). It can get pricy for... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
