great spot for dinner with friends

Great little gem in Montreal - the food and wine selections are superb. Service was excellent. My dinner plate and salad were delicious - only reason I gave it a 4 rating is that for a couple of my friends their fish plates were on the saltier side but otherwise tasted very good.

I have enjoyed many meals at bistro Cocagne both for business as well as pleasure. I was looking foreword to showing a visiting guest from China a good little French resto in Montreal and having him discover Cocagne's signature dish, the pouding chomeur, a "to die for" dessert. The waiter brought us our menus. A second different waiter came by... More

After eating at Cocagne for one of their Easter brunches several years ago, we then bought a couple of coupons for tasting menu dinners. Our Easter brunch and the subsequent tasting menu dinners were excellent - delicious food with courteous, professional service in a nice setting. We had dinner there tonight for my husband's birthday, making our own menu choices... More

I was with a large group of 15. I called ahead to ask if they had a private room. They e-mailed me to confirm that we were booked in a private room. We get there, and we are not in a private room (I don't even think they have a private room). It was like a private room though since... More

Everything on the menu is good. I've been at least a dozen times in the last year. Every time I go I try to have something different but I just can't resist ordering the foie Gras poelé.. Good wine selection, good service a place to take your time and enjoy

A restaurant for grown ups : professional service (maybe a little too efficient sometimes), good presentation, some very tasty food and a lively atmosphere all made for a very pleasant lunch. If you are looking for the kind of top rate bistro that you might find in Paris I dont think you would be disappointed. We went for the seafood... More

We have been to this restaurant ever since Toque moved out of this location. The food is always original, tasty, beautiful presentation and not expensive. $39 table d'hote. Service is so attentive. Very pleasant in English and French. Fun experience!

Working with a film crew June 30th who were filming the different plates in season prepared by the chef. I went down in the kitchen to watch the team preparing for dinner. I asked the Chef to choose what I was to have for dinner. He prepared an incredible fish cake in herbs and lemon. Followed by the White boudaine... More

Very friendly service. We had the "menu degustation". Everything was delicious, but some dishes were made to look more complex than they actually were, in my opinion. Can be pricy, but certainly worth a try.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
