Bonaparte was recommended by the concierge at the St. James. It is a short walk from the hotel in a nice area of Old Montreal. We were promptly seated to a table in the back of the restaurant near the serving area which I did not like but there were no other tables available. We got the escargot pastry and... More

My husband and I were there Saturday night july 25th hoping for a romantic dinner. Unfortunately Bonaparte is not the place for such an evening but it is a great restaurant to go to if you are looking for great service, great food and great martinis. Our server Jason was very welcoming, knowledgable and extremely organized. We did the tasting menu which... More

While I gave Bonaparte a rating of 4 stars, it is on the higher end of 4 stars. Bonaparte was recommended by the concierge of our hotel as being well known for French cuisine in Montreal. Our concierge made reservations for us and they could accommodate us on that same day. At some point in the evening every single table... More

After attending a show in Montreal, we went out for a dinner at Bonaparte. The staff was very welcoming and attentive, but not overbearing. We ordered the creme brulee and duck fois gras on homemade gingerbread to start. I'd never had fois gras before, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. It was delicious! Very rich, so the serving... More

We stopped in the Bonaparte for an after dinner cocktail. When asking the bartender Jason for his signature cocktail, something dessert like, he proceeded to create a warm,chocolate/espresso cocktail that was absolutely Amazing! We had no idea what to expect and were blown away by his impromptu creation. Thank you Jason for being the best bartender in the world!!!

We ate there on our arrival in Old Montreal The service was great very attentive but not bothersome. Food was was prepared as requested. Reasonable wine list. Decor is charming and we had a table for 2 right beside the window.

A small group of us enjoyed a relaxing dinner at Bonaparte. At the suggestion of the waiter I had the veal chop which was prepared exactly as ordered. Perhaps I am spoiled, but the chop itself did not live up to the quality I enjoyed at other restaurants. The slight disappointment I felt with the chop was soon gone when... More

Ate here for my wife's birthday while were were visiting Montreal. Had the multi course tasting menu. Everything was excellent. They were even very careful with my lobster allergy, didn't have any reactions, very good on their part. On our list to go to again.

Reading the posts on tripadvisor I think most of these people are charmed by the romance of the decor and location or have not eaten at many high quality restaurants. The good parts -- a nice and attentive staff (not only the bartender who served us - but the maitre d' with whom we spoke on the phone and at... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
