Lovely intimate restaurant close to Notre Dame Cathedral. Had the tasting menu and it was perfect portions. The food was simply wonderful. Best lobster stew I have ever had. Prices were reasonable for a fancy food dinner out. Would definitely return.

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff at Spring Hill Suites. It was the best dining experience my wife and I have had in many years. Great French food. Excellent service. We will visit every time we are in Montreal.

Fine dining with a good selection of wine and a nice menu - not too overwhelming. Food was all nicely seasoned and prepared. Service was attentive without being fussy. A bit pricey but worth a visit especially for a special evening.

I'm a little bit of foodie and have eaten at many nice restaurants across Europe and the United States. This is classic, simple, French cuisine done impeccably. My family and I (a party of 3) all opted for the "tasting" menu. I put "tasting" in quotes because the portions seemed traditional size, which was not a problem for any of... More

We wanted to eat at a good French restaurant in/near Old Montreal when visiting recently, and used Tripadvisor to choose Bonaparte. It turned out to be a great choice. My wife and I each ordered from the tasting menu, making sure we didn't duplicate courses so we could sample more dishes. Everything was very good, with some exceptional courses including... More

Bonaparte was recommended by the concierge at the St. James. It is a short walk from the hotel in a nice area of Old Montreal. We were promptly seated to a table in the back of the restaurant near the serving area which I did not like but there were no other tables available. We got the escargot pastry and... More

Our server Jason was very welcoming, knowledgable and extremely organized. We did the tasting menu which... More

While I gave Bonaparte a rating of 4 stars, it is on the higher end of 4 stars. Bonaparte was recommended by the concierge of our hotel as being well known for French cuisine in Montreal. Our concierge made reservations for us and they could accommodate us on that same day. At some point in the evening every single table... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
