Excellent Tasting Menu

Beautiful old home in Old Montreal built in 1886. Soft music, soft lighting, attentive but non-intrusive staff. Great wine list. Extremely well priced tasting menu: I had lobster bisque, foie gras creme brûlée, shrimp and scallop in a vanilla sauce, pear and tarragon sorbet and rack of lamb. My... read more

We were staying at the Auberge Bonaparte and based on Trip Advisor reviews decided to dine in the restaurant our first night there. A beautiful intimate table for 2 in the window--a bit tight for seating but wonderful none the less. Started with the goat heese & almonds in a phyllo pastry on greens. Wonderful! My boyfriend had seared foie... More

This lovely little French Restaurant in Old Montreal was wonderful. The service was excellent and the food was very good. My husband and I were not that hungry, so we the Lobster bisque, shared the foie gras appetizer and shared the steak tartare. All were very good and would highly recommend

The restaurant has recently been renovated. The space is wonderful. The cocktails were special and the food was fabulous. Two of us had the Dover Sole. This is one of my favorite dishes.

This charming little restaurant in Old Montreal was wonderful. The service was excellent, the food was very memorable and the dessert.. I would go there every night for their soufflé. I was up in Montreal a couple weeks ago and was disappointed they were closed for renovation. I will be back in Montreal again later this year and they will... More

The restaurant has a very attractive feel , with varied seating and spaces, for which I would offer 4 stars. However, four of us dined there a few evenings ago and found the food only adequate to poor. The presentation was good, but the lamb shank was over cooked and very tough. We all had the same dish on the... More

The food was good, nicely presented and tasty. The service was excellent, our waiter Jason was attentive. This was my third visit, somehow, perhaps due to my food choices, it didn't seem that the standard of cuisine was as high as before. The dining room is beautiful and the overall standards very good. Perhaps a serious foodie would be disappointed,... More

Classic french setting, the seat besides the street is amazing. The view outside the window really brings back the experience I had in Paris. Convenience location with many paid and free parking. The food is great with a reasonable price, and the service is excellence.

The breakfast was subtly English but the aura set was highly french. Enjoyed eating there. Although if only they could get smaller plates for the sausages. Scantly scattered food on large plate has never looked good.

Went to Bonaparte as ot is an institution of french cuisine. in a city full of vibrant exciting resteraunts, I found the food was a bit dull and although the resteraunt was quite lovely, I felt it lacked the charm of some of the "holes in the wall" that I had gone to. I'm thinking this antique is sadly past... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
