Great food, beautiful atmosphere, nice setting, could have better service

We ate at L'autre Version twice and weren't disappointed. While there were groups around us, I'd say this is more a couple place, without the stuffy/cheesy/overly romantic unwanted details. Food : Excellent, excellent, excellent. Yes the prices are a bit higher than average, but if you're... read more

My wife and I had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. There was a two piece vocal jazz band playing. However, the food was mediocre and the wine pairing left something to be desired. The service was so so.

We enter to get off the main tourist square but dine al fresco and this restaurant was perfect. Don't be fooled and think the restaurant is no good because no one is dining in the window. The premium seating is out back in their own courtyard. The food was first class and beautifully presented. It tasted even better. The service... More

Never had such excellent foie gras! Nice location off the tourist path. Go as a couple or with friends. Food was well worth price. Romantic setting inside and back.

My husband and I had dinner here during our recent trip to Montreal. I have to say it was a wonderful choice. We opted to eat indoors as we were there last week for the heatwave and the humidity were too much for outdoor dining. We had a table by the window. However, they have a fabulous outdoor courtyard. Our... More

We had two very tasty dinners here. Innovative dishes , smokey and interesting. Great cocktails like the sour apple martini! Their signature mushroom dish is not to be missed. So far one of the better places to eat.

Yum, yum, yum!! Everything we had was delicious and unusual. Presentation was with a flair. The backyard courtyard felt like a walled garden hidden away from the city. And did I say yum, yum? The local and in season food was so enjoyable, particularly the wild mushroom appetizer. I'm still dreaming about those wild little mushrooms a week later! My... More

This restaurant has one of the most romantic terraces, an incredible chef, and an awesome location. So, why only two stars? The service is borderline non existent. Let me backtrack three years ago - my husband and I came to L'Autre Version for dinner before flying off to Paris. We were looking forward to start our vacation on a romantic... More

I know this restaurant could get a "Very Good" rating, but some unfulfilled expectations oblige me to give it a rather lukewarm review. The setting cannot be reproached: their outdoor sitting area is lovely and intimate, right in the middle of the charming Old Montreal, steps away from the port. Service was courteous, professional, but unfortunately our 4-people table couldn't... More

I loved everything about that place. The restaurant is located in the Old Port of Montreal, which is very nice and romantic. The place is classy and beautiful. The service was perfect. Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
