I know this restaurant could get a "Very Good" rating, but some unfulfilled expectations oblige me to give it a rather lukewarm review. The setting cannot be reproached: their outdoor sitting area is lovely and intimate, right in the middle of the charming Old Montreal, steps away from the port. Service was courteous, professional, but unfortunately our 4-people table couldn't... More

Hello Mr. Costa, We are sorry that you did not appreciate the quality of our fresh cusine from the market as much as you expected. Do you have any suggestions on what could be improved or what would you want to see on the menu? Au plaisir! More

If you like wine, great food, great service and a romantic setting than go here. I can't think of anything I didn't like - well, except for the restroom being down a flight of stairs. You may want to keep that in mind while consuming your adult beverages. This is on my list of places to return to when in... More

We came to Montreal for the Jazz Festival hoping to experience some of the great food and drink that we'd heard so much about, along with the fabulous music. It wasn't until our fourth night in the city that we discovered this amazing place and felt that we'd had the culinary experience we'd been looking for. I generally don't like... More

My wife and I were on a weekend getaway in Montreal. We enjoyed their lovely court yard on a warm summer evening. It is an oasis of relaxation and perfect service in the heart of Old Montreal. The cuisine is simply outstanding. Their Chef must be a magician. Every dish we tasted was creating a firework of sensations in our... More

One of my favourite chef has moved to another restaurant, l'Autre Version, and he's still making amazing stuff! Now with even more experience, he comes up with even crazier concepts, a mix between Canadian, French, Skadinavian, Italian, and Asian cuisine. Not to be missed!

Very nice and charming restaurant with a cosy terrace at the back. The food is great and made from local products. The wild mushrooms plate is beautifully presented and the taste... Amazing!! The Chef Samuel Sauvé-Lamothe is definitely a reason for this restaurant new success. A place to discover!

My companions lunch specials were beautifully plated. The grilled vegetables were eggplant medallions with goat cheese on grilled baguette and a side of salad though for $15 it was not so special. The grilled bread was chewy tough. I ordered the smelts which were fried to perfection crackling crunchy and savory and served with a side salad for $10. Though... More

stylish modern decor with old stone wall accents make for a fashionable setting on Montreal's oldest street, Rue St. Paul. Menu changes frequently, so check their website, restoversion.com. Presentations are artful and unusual. I started with pan of wild mushrooms on sea lettuce with thyme smoke, which were rich and intense, a quick trip to mushroom heaven. Lightly smoked rainbow... We were walking around Vieux Montréal considering having a bite on a patio but couldn't decide when we stumbled upon this place. It wasn't busy but we appreciated the privacy. We ordered the $15 express lunch and it was on point! Small soup and sandwich. Also had a red wine sangria, it was also quite nice. We sat on the... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
