Music is nice

We went to a concert of Fuat Tuac; he is a fantastic jazz singer with fantastic group; quartet... Food was nice but music was best in town

Just a nice stroll, about 30minutes from old downtown. If you want to be seated close to the band, I suggest you make reservations ahead. We didn't but got to be seated in the back garden (very small but cute) and didn't have to pay any cover charge. Food was good and nice atmosphere. We walked back downtown and felt... More

We found out about this restaurant online and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! We were met at the door by Philippe, our server for the night. He informed us that it was Latin jazz night and the cover would be added to our bill. My girlfriend and I are both jazz fans so we were... More

We stumbled upon this place through tripadvisor, and am I glad we went. Live jazz (tonight was Latin jazz) for a cover ($8 each tonight). We started with the fries - yum! crispy and delicious. We continued with Philippe's recommendations of zarzulela and chimichanga, which were both tasty- we shared. Nothing was served in super large portions, just right sizes,... More

We had dinner at the Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill one evening. We chose to sit in the patio area towards the back of the restaurant. We were able to sit by the window that opens to the patio and looks directly to the stage, so we really had the best of both worlds, being outside and being able to... More

Excellent schedule of internationally acclaimed jazz performers in an intimate setting.Upstairs is actually downstairs in a long, narrow room with walls of brick and stone. Excellent bar. We're big fans of the white sangria.Good modest-sized menu. Don't miss the French Fries.

Loved this place. Great food and jazz on an outdoor patio. Friendly owner came by to chat. Loved the pappardelle pasta with sun dried tomatoes and white cream sauce. What more could you want?

We have just returned from 2 fabulous nights in Montreal for the Jazz Festival. Our last night culminated with dinner and performance by Russell Malone and his fabulous musicians at Upstairs Jazz Bar and Grill. All four people in our party were totally delighted with all aspects of this experience--excellent food, service, ambiance! From the moment I called to make... More

We saw a wonderful Jazz Quartet on a Sunday evening. The place was packed and loud but lots of fun. Tables are tight but not uncomfortable. The reviews on the food have been mixed about this place but we both had wonderful food. I had shrimp and my husband had a mixed seafood dish and we were both pleased.

This is not the first time we ate here. We came mainly for the Jazz. The food is ok! But the Jazz is always good here. You do have to pay a cover price of 16 dollars each to see the show even though we were have dinner. Will be back again and again. Great Jazz!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
