We were eager to experience the Montreal jazz scene and decided to hit the Upstairs for some music and eats. There are a few tables outside the door that lead to steps bringing you downstairs (thus explaining the upside down sign). The interior reminded us of a smaller version of Jules Bistro in the East Village of NYC: laid back,... More

Wonderful, intimate jazz club, which serves good food. We went along without a reservation on a Wednesday night & were lucky enough to get the last table. Great musicians, very relaxed & friendly. Excellent & discrete service, which does not spoil your enjoyment of the music. We were only in Montreal for 1 night, I am so pleased we chose... More

The setting is a quintessential jazz club, but the food was so much better than we expected. the setting was intimate and romantic. We were able to sit in the back of the room with an excellent view of the stage. We both had the filet which was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of black pepper on... More

Our Montreal friends made reservations to bring us to this cozy little bistro during the height of the jazz festival. Despite the crowds you would expect on a busy Saturday night, we were seated promptly, at a great table, and looked after perfectly by our waiter, Octavio. All of our drinks, starters and meals were excellent and reasonably priced. Somewhat... More

Here's a tip - you can attend the last set of any evening free! I did so at 11:30 PM and heard some of the best jazz I've experienced.

Good location, somewhat affordable drinks, very good music and a very welcoming service. If you like jazz this is the place to go.

If you like live jazz music and cocktails, this is a very good place to go. Sure, this does not come for free since there is an entry fee (it was C$16.5 per person for a Saturday evening - not excessive). All in all, the music was good, the service (at the bar) very friendly; we had 2 cocktails, 2... More

Mcgill students were playing the Thursday night we went there. The atmosphere was very smooth and easy going. Our meal was excellent, I had the tilapia and my girlfriend had the duck. Great value for your $$. Good service, very friendly staff. Will definitely return to listen to some great jazz and eat good food.

We really liked this place and went twice in one week. Reserved a table both times. Saturday night was really busy but still great food and service. The whole atmosphere was good. It is small and a bit dark but that added to the ambiance (and the waiters managed to find the right tables with the right food). People are... More

For a place that claims to encourage, promote and lift up jazz artists, should be less profit oriented. The place is almost impossible to cross without bumping into someone or something, tables everywhere you can imagine. While you are eating your own food, you can smell the food from two other tables; even if you whisper, those two other tables... More
