Montreal Icon and One of Kind

The Charcuterie Hebraique is a Montreal icon, been around forever and more popular then ever even when I went there as a student at 3 O'clock in the morning for a quick bite. More expensive now but worth every penny. The smoke meat tastes better then what you can get anywhere in the world that I... read more

As usual, we enjoyed our smoked meat sandwiches - filled with an amazingly thick pile of smoked meat. And my husband loves their huge dilled pickles. We were lucky to be able to avoid the line up for the restaurant and sailed into the take-out part, where we lucked in to a couple of chairs at the limited counter space... More

This place is an icon in Montreal's jewish cuisine heritage. Athough nothing is healthy on the menu, the smoke meat sandwiches are the best in town.

I just love to go back to that place very time I go back home. I haven't find a place that serve their meat as good. If you never went there, make sure to go next time you go to Montreal because you will have missed something out of this word!!

We were prepared to wait in line as we showed up right at lunch time, however the line looked long, but moved quickly. They are experts! We both got smoked meat sandwich with a dill pickle. I knew the smoked meat would be amazing, but I was blown away by how good the bread was too!! It was worth the... More

Going to Montreal? Ya know ya gotta do it. Schwartz's is on the must do list for anyone and everyone. We stood in line for about a half hour mid afternoon but the line up is a constant no matter the time of day. The people in line in front of us ended up at the same table when seated... More

We were lucky. At 5PM there was no line outside. We passed several times in here and the lines were always big. That day the restaurant was full but we wait no more than 1 min to give us a table for 2. we tried the smoked meat sandwich and fries and were amazing.

Schwartz's is a Montreal landmark. Terrific smoked meat sandwiches, real sour pickles. Waiters who are worth seeing. A must visit!

The lines outside are a testament to the quality within. Aficionados would NEVER order a Smoked Meat "lean", slap yourself if you even consider doing this...the flavour is in the fat, get over it, you are indulging in something special. Double mustard, yes. Fries, of course, maybe two. Dill Pickles the way they were meant to be. Cherry Coke, yes.... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
