You gotta go here! Delicious, despite the long wait.

Fun place. Famous. Long lines. But great food and great service. It's a "gotta-go" kind of place. No choice - smoked meat and that's it! But it's great.

Schwartz's never disappoints. It's pretty small so you have to sit next to a stranger. They also have a few benches at the counter. Service is very fast, so eat slow and enjoy. You can order the smoked meat lean or regular. Go for the regular, it has a bit more fat but is much tastier. Don't forget to get... More

2 smoked meat sandwiches, pickles, cole slaw, fries and two ginger ales round out this awesome lunch. Cash only, long line ups are the other things to remember. Highly recommended....great eats.

I'm not much of a carnivore and I was skeptical that I'd be thrilled with a smoked meat sandwich. But this is a landmark in Montreal so I joined the lunchtime lineup to get a seat (btw, line moves quickly). I was blown away! The smoked meat sandwich was divine - finely shaved and moist, flavourful meat. The plate of... More

First time in Montreal and everyone was saying, you want a smoked meat sandwich, you go to Schwartz. So my wife's father took us there and was blown away. As normal for this place, had to wait for a few spots to open, the decor and smells were very chic and cool. Food came pretty fast and I was put... More

We came across this small neighborhood deli quite by accident but would go out of my way to dine their again during our next visit to Montreal. By the looks of it from the outside, you almost can't understand why people are waiting on the long line around the corner for an opportunity to eat some deli. When it was... More

Well sometimes you go with the flow and you follow the herd. I can't say I have been one of those folks but with this stop on my travels I have to say no big deal. As cash only establishment, I knew this prior to my visit but folks you need to have cash so be prepared or spend the... More

OK, look. Schwartz doesn't even have to try. So relax, people. This is the absolute best, the utmost place in the universe for smoked meat. Period. PERIOD. So who gives a damn about service, and decor? It D-O-E-S N-O-T matter. What's on your plate matters. Been there dozens of times. Never been disappointed. They could swear, curse and scream insults at... More

Smoked meat sandwich spot that's been around almost a century. It's a world renowned funky bustling place with a lively wait staff and excellent smoked meats. Try the dill pickle and coleslaw Yummy

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
