Melt in your mouth smoked meat

There's only one thing I've had at this Montreal institution - its famous smoked meat sandwich! And I've never wanted to try anything else. The meat melts in your mouth and is delicious. The sandwich is bursting with meat without being too heavy. I liked the fries, they were a bit on the soft side... read more

Smoke meat (pastrami) on soft rye with mustard along with fries, pickles, coleslaw...how could you go wrong? You can order the meat with the amount of fat (go fat or go home).

Best smoked meat sandwiches in Montreal, but nothing exceptional in a world wide context. Not at all as good as Katz's in Manhattan. There was a long line (30 minute wait) outside even at 2PM.

OK, I heard about this place and did not believe the smoked meat could be this good. Best we have ever tried. There is always a lineup but it moves pretty fast! Nobody can top this flavor.

Went there with another couple this week...of course a line up out the door and it seems no matter what time you go there is a line up out the door...got a table that seats six so another couple we didn't know sat with us.. This was different but worked out fine as they were tourists too. .our waiter was... More

After a great time at the Just For Laughs Festival this summer, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to one of what used to be the best smoked meat sandwiches on the planet. We both remarked upon several other deli's that were better and that is a decided step down from a very high, hard to beat number... More

We popped in for a quick sandwich around lunchtime. The lineup was out the door but the turnover inside the restaurant is quick. We were seated within five minutes. We shared a smoked meat sandwich and a poutine. The servers were all friendly and efficient. The place isn't fancy at all but it was clearly the place to be given... More

My favorite smoke meat sandwich place in the world! I try to stop here every visit to Montreal. It can get busy, but the wait isn't usually long. A must try while in Montreal.

My wife and I and 2 other couples ate lunch at this famous Montreal deli restaurant recently and marked it off our bucket list. And, it was good! We had a 15-20 minute wait which is standard. The restaurant is small, old and a tight fit. There is no liquor license so no beer or wine, but sodas and water.... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
