It used to be that you got top quality smoked meat at Shwartz's. Now it's very hit or miss, the last few times I've gone it's been unrecognizable. I think that the fast and furious pace in which they prepare the briskets is to blame. Mostly a place for tourists and those wishing to indulge in nostalgia now, there are... More

Montreal is known for its smoke meat; Schwartz is well known as the top destination. Most popular is the smoke beef sandwich, which should be ordered on the medium rare side to avoid "dryness". Portions of meat very generous. Only drawbacks are crowded share seating and lineups particularly between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.

You have to experience a Smoked Meat Sandwich at Schwartz's. The simple style has lasted since 1928 for good reason. I don't usually eat meat, but this is a MUST

You wait in line. They sit you at a table. They will then take your order with added suggestions: "sandwich medium lean, fries, pickle and cherry coke. Eat fast and order extra pocket sammy to go. Local celebrities can be seen here.

Went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon after 1:00 to hopefully avoid the rush. My co-worker had been many years before and was looking forward to going back. The smoked meat sandwich was warm with mustard on great rye bread. It's very hard to find good rye bread in my hometown. The fries reminded me of the homemade ones my... More

There is Montreal Style smoke meat,...and there IS Montreal smoke meat. This is the REAL DEAL. No need to say anything else. The best . There is always a line-up outside to get into the small-number tabled restaurant..but, the take-out side is quick.

I was told this was one place I should go to when in Montreal. It was quite far from the hotel I had to take a taxi there. Had the Smoked meat sandwich....everything I heard was true. Man it was good. Place was old, lots of character as they say, waiter's where vintage as well. Cool place to go to.... More

I asked around to see where to go for the best smoked meat sandwich and was told Schwartz's and Dunn's. We opted for Schwartz's and did not regret it. The staff is very friendly and our waiter recommended the medium to fatty meat cut. The sandwich was fresh bread, mustard and their own smoked meat. It looked like the picture,... More

Don't miss this spot. There's always a line-up but it moves rather quickly. Even if you're not a smoked meat lover this is vintage Montreal eatery. Nothing fancy just the best smoked meat in North America.

Schwartz's deli was highly recommended but it was disappointing. I was so looking forward to beef brisket on a kaiser, the way I used to eat it at a deli called Kardishes in Ottawa (it closed years ago but I still dream about it). To my surprise there is only Montreal smoked meat, or some deli cold cuts (turkey or... More
