There are arguments among longtime Montrealers as to where one can get the best smoke meat sandwich in the city and Schwartz' is always on that list. The no frills service and seating is just part of the overall taste of the meal. Enjoy!

This deli was always over rated but even more since Celine Dion bought it. I found their smoked meat is too salty. Lining up has improved recently for take-out as they have added a smaller establishment just for take-out. Otherwise the wait is never worth it, especially in the winter. Some people enjoy the fact that the wait staff are... More

the famous eatery since 1928 is now owned by Celine Dion and hasnt changed a bit. the famous montreal smoked meat sandwich is as expected, delicious. this billion-calorie heart-attack inducing sandwich can be ordered different ways, i recommend the medium fatty for best taste. Fries are average-low and greasy. i would skip the coleslaw as it was just average and... More

The title says it all. I had tried smoked meat. It was not something I would choose to eat. Until my significant other wooed me with promises of it being that good. So off we went for the whole experience: cramped at one of the tables with someone else, the fries, the half-half pickle, the warm medium fat sandwich and... More

A bustling, crowded dingy place, as always, but with, at its best, really good food. Prepare to sit elbow to elbow with loud talkers asking you to pass the mustard. Smoked meat we had was somewhat dry, but asking for moist is a tip old-timers know. I have to agree with The New Yorker critic who said smoked meat is... More

Yes great food! But don't get dressed for the occasion. Loud, cramped, an attitude if a resto can have one, feel like I am in a Jewish American neighbourhood. Very different for Montreal. Worth a visit

This is the place for that great juicy sandwich.Top it with Swiss cheese for that added flavor and down it all with a cherry coke. Don't forget the side dish of fries and for those of you who like grilled liver go for it.

It is one of those places you need to experience while in Montreal. The décor will not overwhelm you but the food is unique to Montreal and it is very good. Fast, friendly service. There might be a line up or not, depending on which 15 minute interval you arrived.

Decided to try this on the spur of the moment when there was no lineup, because we have heard so much hype about the place. The space itself is very small, you have to share small tables with other people. The atmosphere is nonexistent, or rather, is that of an ordinary low level diner. The service is not very pleasant...
